So far so good. I bought this hard drive to expand my internal storage capacity in my computer tower. Western Digital has been my goto brand for anything harddrive related. Ive never experienced a poor product, and have yet to have a hard drive fail on me. You can never go wrong buying a hard drive from WD. My best advice is to always buy a larger capacity than you think you might need. With 1 TB drives being so common and so cheap these days, its best to catch one of these multiterabyte drives on sale and save yourself a headache in the future.

I wanted to upgrade the hard drive in my old desktop from IDE to SATA, as SATA is faster and cheaper. Instructions that came with this WD drive were not the best, and instead of providing the cloning software, I was required to download it. Had to do that on another computer and save on thumb drive. My computer is an old office computer, and I was able to contact their IT dept to get the administrators password to activate the SATA. Had to get an SATA cable and a power adapter cable, too.WD warns that you might have issues if you have a RAID card. Dont know if my computer has one, but as I was reloading everything, I did see something flash by about RAID. From what Ive read Seagate doesnt have the RAID card problem and they include a CD with the cloning software and a cable. Had I known that before I bought this, I would probably have gone with Seagate, but the WD is working fine now.

I had a hard drive that was going out old hard drive from an old computer on my new computer I had built a few months ago. So it was doing wacky things and running slow at some points. I was going to get a new drive but needed it that day. I looked on Amazon and the price was actually better at Best Buy. I was able to pick it up that day. Because of the Covid stuff they only were open for pickup. So I just drove up and gave them my order info and they brought it right to my vehicle. Great Service and Product.

I love this hard drive Completely new to PCs when I installed this and set it up, and it was extremely easy With help from some YouTube videos I had no issues The price for the amount of storage is awesome

Bought this when my hard drive for my HP Media Center died. It had an XP operating system. Installed it myself. Reinstalled my Windows XP operating system. No problems, everything loaded, and it works just fine. Didnt need to format the drive.

    1. For 1TB of storage its reasonably priced.2. Its the only Blue series drive thats 7200RPMs.3. Almost of fast as the Black Series for almost half the price.4. I never had one go badmaybe Im luvmcky, just saying.5. If one did go bad itd be inexpensive to replace.6. If on a tight budget itll get you by until you can get a high capacity SSD and the load times are acceptable though not great.Cons,1. It doesnt have the warranty that the Black series has, but you get what you pay for.2. Its not nearly as fast as an SSD and with SSD drives going down in price these are less practical for gaming.Id say its a great drive storage and entry level gaming. For the money Id run 2 of them in a RAID 1 to protect my value data and its cost effective considering theyre inexpensive to replace.

So far the Seagate 7200 RPM drive works and no known errors. Here was my experience with MCWD before buying the above driveThe MC guy pointed me originally to a green WD drive on sale. I asked if it was 7200 RPM to match a 7200 RPM drive in the computer I was buying and he said yes. However the WD box did not state 7200 RPM it took me a few hours of googling and finally calling WD to find out that the drive was multi speed and would fluctuate as needed between 5400 RPM to 7200 RPM and they said it was NOT recommended for RAID. It took them a while to find the answer. And I take that to mean the Western Digital was being deceptive in their advertising for this product and not putting details on the box and within their site for google searching what actual speeds this device was. I will avoid WD drives going forward due to deceptive advertising and the weak drives theyre trying to sell to people who arent willing to do the research and shouldnt have to should be clearly on the box and website. At any rate, MC took the drive back no problem and sold me a correct 7200 RPM Seagate drive at the same cost as the WD which was good cost me another drive out to the 20 mile away store however.

Excellent value, good solid drive. Speeds as expected. Nothing special, but the price tag is right. If you need a bunch of drives for system images, data archiving, or any application where speed isnt absolutely paramount, its hard to beat the WD Blue 1TB for price and convenience.By no means are the drives slow for what they are, theyre just no SLC NAND SSD… but again, neither is their price tag.

WD drive are my go to. The quality and value you get is amazing. These HD are built like tanks. They will last you years. And at a average price of 50 or so its a no brainer. I would recommend anyone who has a 1tb HD that is over 5 yrs old to maybe do a refresh with a new hd you will see a diff. Also its nice to use the old HD as a backup for personal data if needed.

So far, Ive had good luck with Western Digital products. Please note that this is a standard HDD for every day use. If you want to install this on a NAS or any systems that runs 247, I suggest you go with Western Digital RED PLUS products.

A large extremely fast hard drive. 190 Mbs read write speeds to be exact. 5 year warranty. It has extra protection to vibrations around it. Easy registration process. Easy warranty exchange procedure. WD will cross ship a drive overnight if the drive fails.

Im using this Drive to record high resolution audio files in my Home Studio Win7. So far it is very stable and fairly quiet. Though this drive is a tad bit slow, its rock solid and very inexpensive. I usually use WD or Seagate Black hispeed drives but they are expensive as are Solid State Drives SSD. FYIIve switched back to standard Hard Drives HD and moved away from SSDs because Ive had some bad failures from SSD drives. A word to the wise Though HDs do crash, Ive always had the data easily recoveredSSD crash and most everythings lost forever I learned the hard way…

My son needed a hard drive for his gaming desktop. When he asked me to get a Western Digital, I didnt even hesitate to order it and do a curbside pickup on the same day. It didnt take him long to install and get his desktop going.Ive had WD hard drives many moons ago and theyve never failed me.

Ive been using Western Digital drives for a long, long time. Western Digital creates drives in a number of price and quality ranges. Most of the time these drives are colorcoded with blue, red, black, and so on, to show which range they are in. Maybe they thought this was too confusing for some consumers, so you can also find the exact same units with branding such as Mainstream. When my sons main hard drive began failing, we promptly ordered him a replacement blue 2TB hard drive. It comes with this Mainstream branding on it, but when you look at the specs you can see its a blue WD drive. In the overall scope of Western Digital drives, blue is the homeuse variety. Its certainly reliable we have many of our home systems with blue drives in them which have been going strong for years and years. On the other hand, blue is cheaper than the highend drives used in mission critical banking applications. We just dont need that kind of speed.Installation is a breeze. Rather than risk dealing with corrupted data, we completely pulled the old drive out of my sons system and put this new one in. We did a wholly fresh install of Windows on the new drive. Then we put the old drive into an external docking station and moved the data off that old drive and onto a new external drive. That way my son could poke through the old drives data at his leisure, safely, and get off any data files he might need. Plus now he would also have an external drive to use for backup purposes going forward.Hes been using this new drive for nearly a month now and its working like a charm. I would expect no less. I have one of my own systems that has a Western Digital drive in it thats in heavy use, now ten years old, and it just began developing bad sectors recently. So they are definitely workhorses.Well recommended. The one we got for this situation was the 2TB model. It has a 64MB cache buffer and a standard SATA interface.

I purchased one of these HDDs in January, and it was on the fritz from the moment I put it into my build. I bought another one earlier today in an attempt to replace that earlier HDD, and it stopped working after one 1 reboot Im sticking to Seagate drives from now on, unfortunately.

Powered up immediately for the new install of windows 10 with plenty of storage left to input data quiet and quick Got a great deal on it when I bought it. Now I have 2 of the same size in my tower aside from 3 external hard drives I shoot a lot of videos, pictures plus capture audio hence the huge amount of storage needed. Would buy another one at the drop of a hat

When ever I build a computer, I tend to use the same brands for each specific piece of hardware. For hard drives, I always use Western Digital. I have NEVER had a problem with their drives in general, and not with this drive specifically. I even still have a Dell that is 10 years old with a WD drive and that computer is still in use and the hard drive is working great. I just put this 1TB in my last build, and it performs as expected and is quiet I dont even here it while in use. I wish the price were a BIT cheaper, but thats not enough to deter me from buying it. It comes with a 2 year warranty to boot ha, no pun intended. The WD black label drives are a little faster and come with a little longer warranty and meant more for performance, and cost just a bit more, so if you are not gaming or need some sort of super lightning speed, this drive is great for general home or business use. I am about ready to build another computer for a friend, and will be buying this same drive for that one as well.

When I purchased my HP from Best Buy, it came loaded with everything I need to do any conceivable task. AND, I could operate it immediately. THEN MY HARD DRIVE WENT And life has never been the same since. The new hard drive has Win 10 which in my considered opinion is just a pile of junk. Everything you try to do is awkward, sometimes taking several steps to arrive at what you want.I am disappointed that, even though I have Geek Squad Protection, when my computer was ready for pickup, nothing was set up for me on the new system. I believe any reasonable person would have expected it would have been set up and reviewed with the customer upon pickup. So, where do we go from here

Reliable Hard drive that I am using for backup storage. Certainly the 7200rpm speed and RAM cache help speed up performance. However, its important if possible to test each drive before putting them into daily use.

After about 5 weeks of using this hard drive for my data its been working perfectly and reliably. Although still fast, Im still getting used to this slower hard drive, as I use an SSD drive for my OS, which is much faster and just as affordable.I still prefer a SATA drive primarily because Ive gone thru hundreds of hard drives and before they die, the SATA makes a clicking sound, so that you can at least prepare a backup of your data. On the other hand, SSD drives tend to just fail and theres nothing you can do about it.

I bought TWO of these drives from Best Buy deal of the day. I put each hard drive in a hard drive adaptor and neither one was recognized by the computer, tried the same thing with a different adaptor and the same result. Tried both adaptors with a spare hard drive that I knew was good and the computer recognized my spare drive. I took the cover off my year old Dell XPS 8900, removed the power cable and sata cable from an existing working secondary drive power was off prior to doing this and hooked up a new drive, started pc and it was NOT recognized. Repeated the process with the second drive and it also was NOT recognized. Hooked up my spare drive and it WAS recognized by the computer. Returned the drives to Best Buy, exchanged for 2 more, went home and repeated the processes above and BOTH those drives were NOT recognized Returned to Best Buy and got a refund. Both drives in in my XPS are WD and so is my spare drive so not sure where quality control went with these drives. Must be a bad batch but I am done experimenting trying to find 2 that are not defective.

Im an old timer. I used to buy WD HDDs when they were still in the MBs. Its amazing technology has progressed so fast that you can store TBs of data on something so small. Brand loyalty is not lost on this device, as Ill probably always choose a Western Digital over others. Excellent value

I use this as an internal backup drive. I have the backup utility in Ubuntu Linux configured to make a nightly incremental backup at 3 AM, which usually takes only a few minutes to sync with all changes made to my main hard drive during the previous day. I also make monthly uncompressed disk backups and keep the last three, and I have an external hard drive version as well. Ill eventually get another network attached storage device and keep everything backed up on that RAID device.

Ordered the WD Mainstream 1TB Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive to expand the storage on my new HP SFF desktop computer. The installation was easy and the only problem I had was trying to mount the drive. The mounting hardware supplied would not work. I found out that HP uses special hardware . Looking inside the PC I found out that HP had included a set of the special hardware for the addition of a extra drive. The new drive is up and running.

Not a lot to say. Its a hard drive. Installed without issues. Works fine. I use it as a backup drive for a mac pro 2009 flashed to 5,1 that i use for music production. I havent benchmarked it so cant comment on that, but it seems fast enough. I have SSDs for higher throughput needs.

I purchased two of these and they both came out the box in professional packaging. Very easy to install in both of my rigs and setup in the BIOSOS was very easy. Took less than 30 minutes to set up both of these including installation. Speed is what youd expect 7200RPM, good for storing media and games. Very good price and WD has always been very reliable. I purchased this drive for a reinstall of Windows 10 on my Wifes PC. She had several older and smaller drives that needed to be phased out of operation. The reinstall worked fine and this drive is now the primary c drive of her system. The partitioning, and formatting worked fine. The drive has not had any issues and has ran continuously for the last several months.

Reason for Purchase Bought it because my only harddrive died, and I needed a brand new one to replace it.Review What can you say in a review for a harddrive It does what its supposed to do, plain and simple. Nothing wrong with it. But I can say that structurally, physicallyspeaking, it was super easy to put into my computer. I have never done it before and it took one YouTube video the day before it came in the mail, and 2 minutes to put in and hook it up. I turned on the computer and changed a setting as it asked, the rebooted. I had no operating system, so its just a blank drive. So I had Windows 10 Pro that I bought separately here, and put that in to boot from first, and after it installed, I did the F2 or DEL, and chose to boot from the WD harddrive. Then bam Windows loaded, I went through the options and settings and the computer was resurrected Thank God for YouTube and this drive

I use internal harddrives for surround audio remastering. The program basically takes a 10GB stereo recording and processes it 46 times by splitting in 6 different soundtrack 5.1 surround recording. Now imagine what kind of an IO load a harddrive has to sustain to write at a very high speed 6 such files simultaneously, non stop, for months. My previous internal harddrive worked fine until I started this hobby of mine. It gave up in a week. I went to best buy thinking I will have to spend at least 250, but instead bought this for 80 and even got 10 off with my Best Buy Member card. AmazingThis harddrive has already worked flawlessly for 3 months. Only when there is a lot of IO at the same time I hear its whining, which is expected. I dont know how long it will last. If it will tolerate my high IO abuse longer than a year I will be a happy camper. If it will give up sooner no problem I will just buy another one. 80 isnt going to make me poor

2TB drive for 60 dollars is an amazing deal compared to other competitors. Despite being 5400RPM only its still a bit faster than my old 7200RPM 500GB HDD from Toshiba. While Speeds of HDD doesnt really matter especially for gaming, but moving large amount of files kind of does, I had around 428GB of files I had to move from my previous drive Toshiba and it took less than 20 minutes. Its also very quiet as well even when moving a lot of files or just general use.

For years I had avoided WD hard drives because I have seen significantly more DEAD WD drives than any other brand. They had proven to be unreliable in my experience, and in others. But I figured they must have improved their manufacturing by now, so I took a chance to see if it was better. NOPE The drive is dead on arrival. The first machine would report no drive present, and if you powered off, unplugged and replugged it, the drive would suddenly appear in the system setup. I tried a MSWin10 install, and it hung for a long time trying to partition the disk, never actually being able to partition it. This was a replacement for a working drive in taht machine.Tried in a second system, also functional. Onve again, MSWin10s installer just outright reported it couldnt work with the drive reported as an io device error. As these machines work perfectly fine with OTHER disks, it is obvious its defective, which means Western Digitals quality control has gotten worse than ever. And since BBuy cant be bothered to carry any other HDD brand, I wont be buying any more from them.

HD was purchased for a HeimVision security camera system for the home. I have 4 cameras set to lowest sensitivity and programmed to record during movement. 2TBs was enough hard drive space. It used approximately 1 of the space daily. The HD was necessary to record security footage instead of just enabling it as live viewing.

I bought this Western Digital hard drive, brought it home and started to transfer my video footage to it and found out that it just stopped in the middle of the process. I tried it a couple more times and it failed again. I took it back to BB and exchanged it for another drive. It seemed fine but then it started to fail at random times again. Ugh. This will be going back again. I have bought many drives and this is the first time I have ever had a major issue. I have had good luck with Seagate in the past. Western Digital doesnt seem as reliable.

I buy a lot of hard drives and generally dont have problems with them. This one however was nothing but aggravating. Windows said it couldnt format the drive with no other explanations. That meant I had to run data lifeguard on it and see what the problem was, that problem was too many errors code 225. Since this was just past the 15 days, I was waiting for other parts to arrive, I could not return it to best buy. I had to ship this brand new drive off to WD at a cost of 10.51 and wait to have them return me a used reconditioned drive. Overall, a terrible experience.

Id been loyal to Seagate for years, but they hit a real rough spot in terms of reliability starting in 2014 thanks to environmental problems in their Thailand factory. Last month, both of my Seagate 1TB drives in my RAID1 array failed within a few weeks of each other and that was enough for me to say never again and go with a different brand.Note that I did put this in a Synology NAS. Western Digital recommends the Red line for this, which I assume has a longer MTBF. So while this drive may fail a bit sooner than ideal, thanks to having RAID1 w cheap cloud backup to Amazon S3 Im not too concerned about that. At 40 for a TB, the price is right.

When considering hard drives its important to understand what youre looking for, and whats offered out there. As the product itself is named Desktop Mainstream you cant expect top end drive speeds as far as platter hard drives go.However this isnt a snail speed 5,400 desktop model, and it does have a fair bit of cache on it. If you can cope with a few extra seconds of load times during windows load up, or during moments of intense usage, then this drive is going to be perfectly fine for you. Especially those out there that want a quality storagemedia drive.WD has had me sold on their brand for a very long time. Ive ventured on deals with other brands, however the reputation and quality that WD delivers has me coming back every time.If youre someone whos looking for storage and speed without dipping into the SSDs then a WD Black or WD Desktop Performance model is going to fit the bill well. This is currently being used in a family members midpriced pc as a media storage drive and it has performed well with no hiccups or stuttering with any video file thus far.

this drive provides more than enough storage for me and my small home based business. Recently built a new PC for the home office and was able to add this drive with ease. I was able to upload all new software. The response time is great files open with no lag.

This product advertises that it has some Acronis software that will let you clone an existing drive onto a new WD drive. That is a lie.The software is crippled. So, what you respond. No, I expect it to be crippled to require at least 1 WD drive as either the source or target drive. This software is so crippled that it wont even recognize when a WD drive is part of the system. It takes letting one of their staff to remotely access the computer installing the software and make changes to the process in order to let the software install. That is nothing short of a complete fail on the part of WD Acronis and by association MicroCenter.

  46. blank

    rwglynn

WD claims that it offers a clone tool from Acronis to setup your new drive. While I expected crippleware, WDAcronis went beyond that. I expected that the software would require 1 of the drives source or target to be WD brand drives in order to work. WDAcronis went beyond that. Their software wouldnt even recognize if a drive was WD and therefore it blocked the software from installing. NiceWhen I first encountered this about 3 months ago, I was ready to attribute it to a new release of software that wasnt tested. The solution at that time was to have a WD engineer remote into my machine and adjust something by copying a file to my machine. Needless to say, as soon as that drive was cloned, I removed the customized software. Now with this purchase, I find the software still has not been corrected. Fortunately, I simply got some other clone software and forgot all about Acronis.I am concerned however. If WD cant get something as simple as software right by telling Acronis what changes to put in the product, should I trust them to get the hardware right

This is an excellent large capacity storage device. Stable and faster than previous generations at the same rpms, this drive has very little in the the way of negatives, but if negatives are the reason you are reading this review, then here is one. The WD 2TB hard drive is a little loud spinning up and can ruin an otherwise silent computer system. Otherwise, it does exactly what it was meant to do and save data properly.

No installation disk or DVD you must be able to go online to down load From western digital I bought two at different times. One to replace my segate system drive on an old intel motherboard with a E5200 processer 2.50 Ghz. Im only using 8 Gig of DDR 2 Memory so no fast speeds for my netzero DSL connection using old copper lines with ATT and of course they want us to move up to Uverse fiber speeds and that would require me to have at least DDR3 to make use of the WD T drive speed. I really need an upgrade badly for 2016. Anyway If I was building a new system, I recommend this WD Drive for a backup drive. You still need one even if you are using the cloud, because someday your going to pay for that cloud access, so backup always to your computer at home, and work I didnt get my photos off my old segate drive and my Family history and have messed them up so badly I doubt it is now my loss files unable to find.

Drive worked perfectly except for the temperature monitoring. I had to order an OWC cable 35 from Amazon to attach to the drive and the board to backfill for the temperature cable on the original drive. If the temperature monitor cable had been included I would have give this a 5 star rating.

I was looking for a full SATA digital drive, and I ended up with this one by mistake. I thought it was bit deceptive to call it a SATA drive when in fact its a disc drive, but the SATA reference is to the wiring connection form. For a disc drive it works fine and provides a really good value for the money, but I only expect three or four years out of it at best. Disc drives fail far faster than a true digital SATA drive. So I plan to put in a digital SATA as a synced backup anyways.

The WD Blue PC Hard Drive was specifically recommended by the tech in apple certified computer repair store I went for my 10year old iMac desktop. Tech replaced original internal HD with the WD Blue. The 4star rating is my trust in WD products. I also purchased a WD external USB 3 drive for same old computer to save all photos, videos just in case.. Unfortunately, the techs work would receive 1 star for of creating other problems during the installation of the WD internal drive and denying his responsibility.

Installation was straight forward with no problems. The only issue was with the cloning software. I had two partitions on the original drive one that was 14 GB and the other some 450. The cloning program divided the 1 TB drive into two partitions of some 480 each. I could shrink the original partition that was 14 down to 14 but could not expand the other to the remainder of the 1 TB space. I eventually solved the problem by copying the smaller partition to a USB flash drive and deleting it from the new drive, expanding the remaining partition to all but 15 GB and adding a new partition and copying the USB flash drive to the new partition. It would have been better if the cloning software had partitioned the new drive correctly to begin with.

7200 rpm is still pretty fast and dependable. This WD 1TB Blue has been a buy for every system Ive built over the passed six years. What used to sell for around 200, you can get now for 60 is a huge selling point. These drives are great as a master or slave storage drive. Never had any of these fail on me. I dont recommend WD green drives due to their very slow performance and nonstressful intended use and if you force them to run hard for gaming which will wear those drives down to corruption. My WD blues are still running after six years with no signs of slow downs or sector readwrite errors. Will buy again Kudos Western Digital.

Awesome 2 TB Hard Drive for the price. Cant even beat the Barracuda HD price wise. I got the HD because it was on sale, but to be honest I was just going to use my PC for my office, so I didnt need 2 TB of hard drive. But if you play video games, or download movies, this hard drive is a must have for you.

Since my existing hard disk drive was failing FAST, I needed to replace it quickly. If Best Buy had had a suitable Solid State Drive replacement for a desktop available in store, I wouldve bought an SSD instead. This hard drive didnt include a required internal SATA cable, so I had to make a second trip for that. Despite following the instructions, Western Digitals cloning software failed to clone as promised perhaps because my exsiting disk drive was already too far gone. I ended up needing Geek Squads service to perform the cloning. But since installation, it has been working fine for over a month now.

2TB for 50. Thats all that needs to be said. The amount of value that this product has for the price is so high that I have purchased two of them. Theyre perfect for storing games especially as game sizes have swelled to hundreds of gigabytes over the past few years and other media like videos and movies.I would NOT recommend installing your operating system e.g. Windows, Linux on this or any other hard disk drive. Instead, you should purchase a solid state drive SSD for that purpose.

I had ordered two of these drives. For some reason they were shipped separately. I received the first one within two days and I installed it. worked like a charm. The second one came in on the 5th day by Purolator. The box had a bruise on it but the drive did not look damaged. I could not get the computers to read this second one so I returned it to Best Buy for a refund. When I was out there returning this drive, over 50 kms. from home. I picked up a SSD. I got home and tried to install the SSD and it also did not read, I tried all the recommended set up advise from Seagate to no success. I just think I will be dealing with some one else for my computer stuff from now on.

this drive has the storage you need to set up any operating system and the space to keep all the files you need for a great price. If you are looking for a desktop hard drive this will work nice for your needs. Whether you are installing Windows or Linux based OS or duel booting both this hard drive is more than enough space to accommodate your needs.

Hasnt broken yet. Dropped in easy. Windows 10 requires you to go into your settings and initialize the drive, so there was some time where I couldnt figure out why it wasnt showing up. Thats not the drives fault, I only mention it so that if youre having the same problem, youll know how to fix it.

Ive had this HDD for about a month and I havent had any problems with usage. Dont expect blazing fast speeds from this one. However, its primary function is to store large files and backups, as well as photos and videos. All I can say is that it works…I also have a few games stored on here and the only difference between this HDD and a NVMe SSD is the loading times. Its still faster than a PS4 HDD though. Its too early to judge the long term reliability, but I really hope it doesnt die on me for at least another 5 years.

    1. Arrived fast wo a SATA cable. 2. On Win7 64bit I had to activate the drive through Computer Management. The OS did not auto detect it. This was not an issue for me but some novice users may find it frustrating. 3. Transfer speeds are decent and stable for now. The drives temperatures are cool. Does not exceed 29C on load. Though I do have a 120MM fan blowing air right on it. 4. For the few weeks Ive had it, the drive is performing well. Although WD is known to outlast Seagate in most cases, time will tell how this particular unit fares. 5. Its a good drive for storage and archiving data which you may fetch frequently. Pair it with an SSD for the OS and youre good.

I recently purchased this drive for more storage, my other same model is 4 years old and still going strong. Its quiet, and is plenty fast enough for things like music and movies. I also keep the majority of my games on this drive. Loading times are longer compared to games installed on my SSD still not bad, but its to be expected. I have no complaints.

This drive is AMAZING for its intended purpose. It is not a very fast hard drive This is not the sort of storage that you would want as your primary drive.. If you want a fast drive, either get a Solid State Drive or WD Desktop Performance or WD Black hard drive but these will be more expensive per GB and will consumer more power, except for the SSD which consumes less power. This drive has five very good aspects 1 It has a LOT of storage for the price, 2 It consumes less than half of the power of a standard HDD, 3 It is extremely reliable, 4 It is much quieter than a standard HDD, and 5 It produces a lot less heat than a standard HDD. The best use for this drive would be as a secondary drive to hold a lot of content that you may not want to put on your SSD which tends to be very expensive perGB.

This is my third 2TB green drive which the mainstream drives are, once you take them out of the box and all of them have been phenomenal. After suffering through multiple failures from other brands, Ive made it a point to only buy WD drives when Im purchasing for myself to clarify, I mean that when work buys me drives, I cant help if they buy me a Seagate that fails in a year, but if I have a say in the purchase, I only buy WD. I bought this drive to go into an external enclosure that wont support any sizes higher than 2TB, so I was limited on my size choices. Unusually, the store did not have any of these on the shelf plenty in the back, just none on the shelf so I had to find a salesman to help me track them down.I have one of these drives as a primary on my home media server as well and it performs flawlessly. The drive itself is about 34 years old and its not so much as hiccuped. I can have 45 simultaneous streams running off the server and it never has an issue.Bottom line if youre in the market to get a hard drive, you cant go wrong with Western Digital. If you need a drive for storage or streaming, and heatnoise are concerns for you, or simply cost, this drive is a great option.

Five stars for the drive. Purchased to upgrade a much older, slower, lower capacity drive that I was using with an adapter card. Installation of the new drive was painless and it runs great. Note this is a bare drive that comes only with mounting screws.Five stars also for WDs downloadable Acronis TrueImage ATI software. ATI will backup all partitions including hidden Windows partitions and the boot sector, so the entire contents can be transferred to the new WD hard drive. Bootable ATI recovery disk can be created on either a CDROM or a USB stick, though the WD edition will only run if a WD drive is installed. ATI gets a fifth star for its ability to be installed and run from the old hard drive AND wipe the old drive in place. This is useful if you only have one SATA cable and youre replacing a nonWD drive.

If you must be a cheapskate like some folks, and skip on the SSD drive version, then this is a decent drive to fall back on. I usually get these for people who dont care a ton about performance and just want to get their system back up and running on a budget. Western Digital WD has been making these drives for decades. Well I havent had issues as of yet but here is my review so far for having it over a month with plenty of installs. So being a gamer, I have use pretty much most of this hard drive to play games on and have my windows installed on. Has worked wonderfully for me. No issues or weird things that has happened, I fully recommend anyone who is building a desktop pc for there first hard drive but I would also recommend spending the extra money on an SSD by Samsung or WD. For this day in age of gaming, a 1TB hard drive isnt enough nor a 1TB SSD as well. A good starting point would be a 2TB. As a first PC build, I was happy to buy this to have my stuff installed but as a curse of being a PC gamer, you want more faster and larger SSDs so I will be upgrading soon. This is a Mainstream Western Digital 500 GB Bare OEM Desktop Drive in retail packaging. The box also contained a few screws and a quick install guide but no SATA cable. The drive that I received had a sticker on it indicating it is a WD Blue Drive. I mention this because others have reported receiving a Green Drive in the same packaging from retail outlets. I installed the drive in an external enclosure and am using it to backup data files and photos. After connecting the drive it needed to be partitioned and formatted before I could use it. This only took a few minutes and it was ready to go. Since Im transferring data for storage and over a USB2 connection, speed is not a priority but reliability is. I have several other Western Digital drives, an internal, an external and a Passport, and all are performing just fine. Two of them are over three years old. Of course no drive lasts forever which is why I make two backup copies of my files using two different drives. Ive only had this drive for a few weeks and so far its running fine. Its also very quiet. If a drive is going to fail it usually does so in the first few months, well within the 2 year warranty for this drive. If I have any issues with it I will update this review.

Overall decent hard drive. The description on Bestbuy website is inaccurate, it says 64MB cache size. But I looked the model number up after I installed it, its the 256 MB cache model. It also uses SMR recording technique.Realistically, it doesnt mean its a bad hard drive. 2TB at this price point is decent. Just keep it in mind, if the drive lost power during writing, all data in the the whole active cluster is lost. This is unfortunately how SMR hard drive works, its more likely to cause data corruption when encounter unexpected shutdowns.

I have been buying only Seagate products for a number of years. I work as a software engineer though and do Full stack web dev on the side. I had an issue come up where I need to get another hard drive and quickly. The client I was working with refused to shell out the cash that was necessary for a WD Red or Black which I suggested for the uses that had intended it for and they settled for the blue instead. With this being on a system that I regularly access I can say from experience that I am impressed with this drive. Out of the box it seemed pretty run of the mill but it boots up quick, does decent for file transfer, doesnt take to much time to read or write anything to it at all and I havent heard it make a single sound. I might have to pick up a WD black for my next personal build and give it a shot. I would gladly recommend WD maybe not over Seagate, but would recommend none the less.

I finally decided that since so many of the computer games that I play these days are digital only, or that require so many downloads even if they were bought on a DVDROM, that I needed to get a hard drive with more storage. I had been making do with a Western Digital 320 GB hard drive paired with another one that is 250 GB. I kept the newer of the two the 320 GB one as the back up drive and installed this one in the place of the smaller drive.Installation was just as easy as it has always been since I made sure that the width of the new drive would fit in my PCs drive bay. Western Digital has maintained good quality and this new one seems to be as well built as older ones Ive used. My computer running Windows 8.1 recognized the drive no problem and I was able to install the operating system on it easily.Ive used this drive almost every day since I bought it for surfing the net, productivity software and gaming. Ive installed and played some fairly demanding games on it and havent noticed any increase in noise, even when the game is really taxing the hardware, over my old drive.I can wholeheartedly recommend this drive.

This is a fast hard drive considering its not solid state. I ran some bench mark test using a popular program. Here are the results. Note in parenthesis is the speed of a 2 year old PNY solid state drive.Minimium speed 53 MBs 110.2 MBs PNY SSD driveMaximum speed 180.6 MBs 160.2 MBs PNY SSD driveAverage Speed 138.1 MBs 145.4 MBs PNY SSD driveAccess time 17.4 ms 0.27 ms PNY SSD driveBurst speed 263,8 MBs 129.1 MBs PNY SSD driveConclusion The 1TB rotating hard drives are very fast and competitive with SSD drives especially when dealing with huge video files like 5GB and 8GB files. SSD drive have such a fast access time they seem and feel faster and more responsive than rotating drives but let me tell you SSD drives do slow down big time after 2 years of service and you can see from my test results that the 2 year old SSD drive and WD rotating drive are close in speed. I have rotating hard drives that still work after 10 years of service. If you need absolute best reliability and good performance with huge video files go with a rotating hard drive like the 1TB WD hard drive. If you play games on your pc you will want a SSD drive. You will notice the SSD speed advantage during your computer bootup but after that you bill hardly notice a difference when the SSD is a few years old. Of course each brand is different and the technology gets better and better all the time but so does the rotating drives. The advantage of the 1TB drive is its a single platter drive, simple, reliable, fast.

It appears that Western Digital is now just relabeling WD Blue drives as Mainstream to fulfill inventory, because every drive on the shelf in this spot was a WD Blue with a new UPC stuck over the old UPC to indicate these are Mainstream drives. It was actually cheaper to buy this WD Blue at my local Best Buy than anywhere else online Great deal. I had been waiting for the 2TB class of drives to drop in price a bit. I have an older WD Studio external FW drive that came with 750GB which was large when I purchased the external in 2008. I picked up this WD 2TB to replace the still running 750. Installation was easy and the new 2TB is humming along. The drives warranty is pretty standard at two years, but Im hopeful it will keep running as long as the prior 750GB did, 6 years of intermittent use.Throughput is limited by the FW800 interface. Ive had no issues with speed nor drive disconnects. This external case is hanging off a 2011 Mac Mini. Drive has three partitions, one of which is a boot partition Ive been using for testing Yosemite.Overall, Im happy with the drive, and the price from BB. These are great drives for the price The Blue drives tend to be for home computers. We are actually using them in a mirrored configuration on a on a few hundred lightweight servers without any problems.Regardless of what SATA drive you purchase, make sure that it doesnt pass through a MOLEX connector from the Power Supply Unit. Those PSU connections are notorious for frying HHDs.Again These are great drives for the price.

I first picked up a Seagate Barracuda to replace an aging external drive, but it was making some worrying chirping sounds that were annoying and a sign of a potential manufacturing defect. After reading up on the problem, I returned the Seagate and picked up another WD Blue. Ive never had a problem with these drives and cant figure out why I bothered with the Seagate in the first place. These drives have always been reliable and affordable. The WD products have always performed for me. Ive been using them since 1987. My first one was a whopping 100MB This drive seems to follow the tradition of reliability.I have installed about 10 of these 1TBN Mainstream Blue in basic desktop machines with zero failures so far. They are fast enough for basic Win7 Office type duties and run very quietly. I will continue to use them in 99 of the machines I build service. Im very pleased.I buy local from MicroCenter in retail packaging to avoid shipping handling damage. MicroCenter is a great place to shop for me and they offer the full line of WD products at good sometimes great prices. What I like best about WD is that they offer different product lines for each users price point reliability performance requirements. Every need is different. WD acknowledges that and offers drives that will meet a specific need. As long as a buyer has a realistic understanding of his her needs regarding storage, the WD products are sure to be the best choice.

Very fast for a 5400 rpm hard drive. 175 to 180 Mbs readwrite speeds. Back in the day, 90 Mbs was considered fast for a 7200 rpm hard drive. The 7200 rpm hard dives are about 200 to 220 Mbs. That also is VERY fast. A good drive from a great company.

After much review research regards use of hard drives for video surveillance equipment took a chance on the desktop WD version. Yay for me Works like a charm for my home CCTV low end four camera system. Quiet, reliable, and plenty of storage. Probably would have gone with the video drive if I had a higher end system but for generic home security recording…the one fits the bill at a reasonable price. Been running non stop for several months now review of footage is flawless cant expect the recording to be better than the camera resolution. It works. It is reliable. And quiet mine is housed in a four sided cubby about 8 feet from my head while sleeping barely hear a whirring and that gets lost in the sound of anything open window, furnace, AC, etc.

Ive owned WD drives for decades. Ive had only one fail out of 60 or 60. Other drive brands have let me down more often. So I chose WD Blue for a backup drive. Sure it is slower than my SSD drives and my NVme 2 internal drives, but this is for security. The prices was good and the drive worked.

Would not buy again. Initial install and setup resulted in the storage device already being corrupted, without even being used. Attempted repairreboot, did not work and had some minor issues with my computer. Had to bring to a repair shop to resolve the issue, which only started when I attempted installing this device.

After about 7 years my primary hard drive was showing telltale signs of failure so I got this WD Blue hard drive to replace it. Installation was easy and for the last few weeks Ive had no problems. I typically use the WD Black hard drives for performance sake but this time I decided to try the Blue variant. For my uses its just as good as the Black version and cheaper too. Ill definitely be using the WD Blue in the future and recommend them to anyone.

It was determined a few weeks ago that my hard drive had gone bad. I left my computer at Best Buy, Rivergate Mall area, Goodlettsville, TN on a Saturday morning, and the work was completed on Sunday. During this time, I was sent texts on updates, and Sunday evening advised that I could pick up the computer on Monday. I was very impressed with the professionalism exhibited by the employees at Best Buy, and extremely appreciative for the timeliness of the completion of the repair. I definitely will recommend others to Best Buyw

I bought this in midmarch and I held out on my review because I was sceptical about WDs performance. Ive lost 3 drives previously from that company without being able to recover what I had on them. But I can tell people that this drive has continued to perform just as advertised.

The WD Blue drive has become the Model T of hard disks ubiquitous, reasonably performative, affordable. Consumerlevel hard disks retain their vital place in information technology. Although they are not going away any time soon, they perform well enough that innovation is rare and mostly incremental. If youve owned dozens of hard disks then probably you have owned some Blue drives, and probably they performed as expected in whatever roles you assigned. If you want a bigger, faster drive, get it. If you want a stable drive at a good price, with a clear warranty and official packaging, here it is.

Over the course of year as an Electronics Engineer, I have seen all of the major HardDrive Manufacturers dump out a plethora of Drives targeted for specific purposes, i.e. Home, Commercial, Server, LoadBalanced Fiber Optics transfer, R.A.I.D. Backup Mirror, etc,…W.D. As Western Digital is referred to in the Tech World and Seagate have remained dominant in the production market, while other substantial and early starters have all but vanished from the market. I have been impressed many times by Western Digital Hard Drives of all types and sizes over the course of 30 years in the Industry. Some installations go decent, some go incredible, and some become a frustrating challenge in and among different platforms and scales. When I unpackaged this drive and inspected the connectors Which I always do, I noticed that the SATA connector was a premium componentPossibly MILSpec Quality, This was completely impressive on first glance My application for this particular Drive was in a CloudBased Surveillance transfer System using FIRMWARE and the normal set of Controllers to implement its Operating System. I wondered if the system would recognize the drive the first time on startup, and even if it could perform a lowlevel format unassisted. WOW,… This Drive took off like a Missile and the System recognized it instantly without any hesitation. The entire Format session took less than 45 seconds and the system came to life on livetransfer just a few seconds later I have to admit that I was a little stunned by this blazing performance, recalling countless times agonizing over small glitches and restarts required in fitting Drives for use in similar applications. I just sat there for a minute, scanning the monitors, almost motionless and then I could not withhold my delight, yelling out, WOW, BAD TO THE BONE Such reactions may seem a little over the top, but for someone whos seen as much as I have over the years, when asked what my opinion of these new W.D. Drives is, I will repeat the same response WOW, BAD TO THE BONEThe Access time is incredible, Latency Outstanding, and talk about quiet INCREDIBLEYou cant go wrong with any of the drives in this series, and the price is SMOKING GOOD compared to other junk out there proliferated by China and Japan all over the Internet. W.D has been good from the start AND I WAS AROUND BACK THEN, And I have to say, they have outdone themselves again GO W.D.,…. YOU ROCK

I went looking for a 2TB drive to replace a Seagate 2TB which crashed after a month so this is about the only thing in the store to buy. First of all, WD is hiding the rotational speed of this drive its not on the packaging Why in the heck should we have to look it up on the web 5400 rpm is not a big deal for now, only going to use this drive for backup. Will look for something better in the future. I no longer will buy Seagate drives. I dont trust any of these drives anymore no reliability. You should always buy two of these and backup your backups to the second one.

I got this one to replace a Seagate hybrid drive that failed. Im using this for my main boot drive, the hybrid speeds were inconsistent, which messed with my game and video streaming performance. This Western Digital drive has a lower peak speed rating, but is able to maintain that speed, and doesnt slow down on long sustained data bursts like video processing or heavy graphics games. This is also a 3.5 drive as apposed to the 2.5. The smaller drive couldnt handle the heat my desktop machine produced when one of my 3 case fans failed. I replaced the fan as well There are 5 other drives in this case, all larger Western Digitals, they all handled this temporary heat problem fine.

Before I bought this, I had the exact one from 2013 that I took out of an old HP desktop and when I was transferring it over to my low storage gaming pc. I broke the SATA port that connects to the motherboard. I bought this and it was the same one I had and it runs like I expected from WD and also performs like my old one before I totaled it. Simple short, if you want a hard drive to upgrade your pc, this is it, but if you need more performance, I recommend going to the WD Black Hard Drive than the WD Blue Hard drive, but for the majority of the people who wants the basic features and good speeds, go with this one.

This drive is fine as a general use drive. Do not expect the same performance as a Black Edition drive. Im rating it at 2 stars due to the drive failure in less than 6 months. Given the number of positive reviews here and other sites and Western Digitals reputation for quality drives I have to assume I just got unlucky with this one.Disk Failure DetailsI installed this drive in my system as an additional drive to hold media. After 6 months the the PC would lockup shortly after booting. I ran the Windows version of Western Digitals Data Lifeguard diagnostic tool and it was unable to complete the diagnostics on this drive. I ran the DOS based version off a bootable USB drive which also was unable to compete but it did return an error code of 0225 Error count reached a threshold value. There are too many errors detected on this drive to be repaired. Replace the drive. Fortunately I dont have any critical data on this drive and it has a 2 year warranty. I have submitted an RMA with Western Digital. Im hopefully the replacement drive will be more reliable.

The low cost of the WD 1 TB internal drive is excellent, the installation is quick and easy and it works perfectly. I have been using it for over a month now with no problems. It comes with all of the installation screws to install inside the computer I have a desktop but you will have to purchase the power cable and the cable to connect to the motherboard 520.I installed this drive in my wifes 5 year old HP desktop and it fit perfectly and it runs perfectly. It is super fast, and meets all of the needs of ordinary daily computing including word processing, email, net surfing and research all at the same time with no strain on the drive. I did not replace anything else in the computer. I did not need any other startup software from the manufacturer to get it started either. It worked right out of the box. While a lot of computer experts are hung up on technical details and each and every specification most nontech people just want their computer to work again or store more data for them. This drive will accomplish both of those objectives. It is fast at 7,700 rpm, fast enough for the average persons usage. It is also very quiet, how quiet does it have to be It is certainly as quiet as the drive that came with the computer originally. The only bewares are that you have to be a little savvy to understand that you already have, or have access to, startup programs installed on your computer and that the computer is set to make the drive startup and function properly. Also, you have be able to plug the drive into the correct slot on the motherboard and know that there may be other programs your specific computer might need that could be necessary for the computer to recognize and utilize the drive you are installing. All of these items are not usually mentioned in most articles on installing drives but these are usually the issues that come up as problems in installing new or additional drives.I am certainly no expert, but I can usually research enough to solve most problems. Not everyone has the time or resources to be able to do this. I would recommend that anyone undertaking a replacement or addition of a hard drive to do their research first. That being said, this is an excellent choice for your replacement or additional hard drive.

I bought this HDD to replace one that was going bad in a friends computer. I did not get a chance to use the WD Edition Acronis image software since I was installing an OEM version of windows and then upgrading to Win. 10. No problems whatsoever installing the hard drive or the operating system and the Win. 10 upgrade. It is working great and it has plenty of storage space. The only drawback for me was a 2 year warranty. The last time I purchased a hard drive it came with a 5 year warranty, but it has been quite a while since I bought that older hard drive. That is the only reason I gave this hard drive 4 stars.

I own this and the 2TB Seagate equivalent and this one maybe has a slower overall data transfer rate due to the 5400RPM compared to the 7200RPM, but I dont move around super massive files so often so I couldnt really tell. But what I can tell you is the Seagate drives are loud and take a few seconds to spin up before doing anything. This drive on the other hand seems to be more responsive and is more suitable for continuous activity. Obviously having a Solid State Drive is faster but if you really need a good combination of storage space and responsiveness at a comparatively low price then this drive works nicely.

I bought this to replace my 7 year old WD Green hard drive after it started reporting bad sectors.I have always happened to use WD spinning disks and have never had a problem with them. This is the first time I kept a drive long enough to need to replace it. I believe 7 years is a fair lifetime. So I had no problem going back to WD again, this time for the Blue.I m savvy enough with hardware that installability is not an issue. I opened my box, plugged in the drive, booted, set it up in Windows, robocopyd my data from the old drive to new with no problems, reset drive letters, and rebooted. This is purely a data drive, so it was simple and problem free.

Although many are moving to SSD there is a dirty little secret SSD can only be written and read a fixed number of times before problems start. There are algorithms in how the data is stored that change write locations so this is not a big problem, but it requires you to keep a good deal of your SSD open. Easy answer is to drop in a HDD such as this one and keep your large files there freeing up SSD to handle your OS and applications. I like to use two HDDs so the important files can be in two places.

With its 64MB cache, the Western Digital Blue 1TB drive is one of the faster mechanical drives out there. Its also what I consider to be a perfect size for a hard drive. At 2 TB, higher data density allows a drive to be faster, but at the cost of reliability and were just now at the point where I feel a 1TB drive can achieve the same reliability that the 160340 gig drives of 3 or 4 years ago had. Also, once you go over a terabyte, backups and restores become prohibitively timeconsuming.Having installed over 40 of these WD Blues plus a couple dozen other drives, Ive yet to have one of them go bad i.e. unless its bad out of the box, it should run 5 years or more. Couple that with its good speed and low price and youve got a winner. At least until the mechanicalSSD hybrids have matured and proven themselves, this is still my first choice for mediumtolarge storage.

Dropped this 1TB drive into a spare slot with existing cables and it fired right up. Provisioned it and was off to the races. I moved my Documents, Music, Picture and Video files to the Western Digital leaving plenty of space 120 Gig on the C drive and plenty of space for storage on the WD drive. Ordered the drive from Staples and had it shipped to store. Picked it up on 11262013. Before I opened the antistatic bag, I looked at the label on the drive and it says DATE 21 March 2012. After some research, I found out that this is an old model WD10EARX. The new model is WD10EZRX. There are slight differences, but the big difference is the sustained readwrite speed 110 MBs vs. 150 MBs. Staples web site shows W10EZRX on the picture of the drive. I called Staples Customer Support and explained the problem to the agent who told me he would call me back the next day with a solution. I received no call, so I am returning this drive and purchasing it from another vendor that rotates their stock properly. I would order another one from Staples for an exchange, but I do not have the time to take the chance that I would again receive an old model. Unfortunately, the drive is not carried in Staples stores and has to be ordered. I would recommend this drive it were the newer model.

Pros,I got on sale and use 500 rewards points for gift cards so I didnt pay much.At current price of 50 its a great deal for the amount of data it can store. Its quiet and doesnt use as much power as 7200RPM drive. It has a 256MB drive cache. Its fast at reading and writing data. Its a great drive for achieving data that you want to keep for a while and dont tend to access as much. I could see using this in a RAID 1 configuration as well.It has a lower average failure rate than Seagate.Cons,Its not a good OS, gaming or regular use drive. This is the AZ series which is a SMR drive which only write data to empty tracks instead of overwriting existing tracks which dont become open until the drive goes into idle state and then the drive will delete that data. This isnt good if youre constantly writing data. If this is the case go with the RZ series because it may have only a 64MB drive cache, but it a PMR drive which is much better for writing and rewriting data constantly.Since this is a SMR drive it wouldnt be ideal for a RAID 0 at all.Not the best warranty of only two years, the Black series has a 5 year warranty if your worried about longevity. Its still prone to drive failure, remember to go online and register your drive with Western Digital just in case, for as inexpensive as this drive is Id buy a second one as a backup or have another backup source like a cloud service, Bluray burner or an external HDD.

My home security DVR wasnt working on my app, my friend told me this was the problem. He replaced it and boom Everything perfect again Its ultra quiet. My last hard drive kept the box warm. Now its cool to the touch. Definitely recommend.

Easy to install. Runs quiet. Nothing fancy about it. Wish I would have gotten a larger storage capacity but it fits my needs for now. Only complaint I have, and this has nothing to do with WD, is that standard size drives are getting harder to fit in towers.

My son needed more storage space on his gaming machine. Not super fast space he has a SSD for that, just regular space. We wanted something reliable and affordable. The Western Digital Drive fits the bill perfectly. Easy to install and configure on Windows 10. Great value.

Replaced a failing hard drive by another brand name with this WD. I am a retired IT professional and have always felt WD made the most dependable drives. No issues with the installation and reinstallment of Windows 10.

On sale, this was a good bytetocost buy. At 2 terabytes, recognized without a problem in Windows 7 with a legacy bios not a UEFI. Reasonably quiet and fast readwrite with 6 GB connection, despite 5400 RPM spin speed. Not thrilled with the included WD backup software as the it only installs on Windows drive and I like to keep mine an SSD small. Probably a backup safety feature but I like choosing where I install programs. For backup, I use SyncBack Pro anyway as I like control over syncing files and find full, differential, and incremental backups messy. But for most users, I would imagine the WD software is fine. Spacious and easy to install, with the WD name, this is a good choice.

It was very easy to install, where you just have to find a slot in the desktop and screw it in. The connection wires were easily plugable into two slots. It was also very easy to install afterward. The run time was very fast and convenient. However Im having trouble to have more than one internal drive connected to the main Drive

This drive provides value for the money. Its not especially fast, but my use case for it is bulk storage. I have an SSD for things that need frequent and rapid access. You may not want this to be your primary drive if your concern is performance. However, if you need a lot of storage at a very attractive price, this is a good choice.Installation was trivial. Plug and play, partition, restore from backups I was replacing a failed drive, done. I have a dualboot LinuxWindows 8.1 installation and encountered no difficulty at all.No personal data as yet on longevity, but Ive always had good luck with WD products in the past. Still, it goes without saying do your backups

For HDDs I tell anyone who asks just get a Western digital. The mainstream is a 7200rpm blue which is a great allrounder HDD. I have been using the 2x I own for playing 90s2015 era AAA games and indie games with hardly any load times. I suggest a WD black drive if you want to play games with longer load times. The WD Mainstream drives are a beast and should last 5 years without any issue. Just make sure you get the 7200rpm one if you want to use these for gaming. Western Digital makes a 5400rpm version as well to check the spec.

Despite the web site label identifying this drive as a WD Mainstream it is not. The drives case label identifies this device as a WD Blue 7200 RPM class drive. The 1TB Blue model is the only one that is 7200 RPM class, all larger capacities are 5400 RPM class. As it stands this drive is sufficient to act as an externally housed off line storage drive for my laptop so the media files dont fill up the laptops internal hard drive. The WD Blue appears to transfer data fast enough to playback HD resolution video files. However FF and RW are not as responsive as this hard drive is not a WD Black Edition with its higher transfer rates. Thus this drive shouldnt be the first choice for installing video games to.

Picked this up as an internal backup drive for our desktop computer. As a backup, it works great. Plenty of room for our needs and extremely easy to install. As far as I know, this is a 5400rpm drive so I wouldnt recommend it as as OS boot drive, but using it as a backup or extra storage drive works out great.

I bought this hard drive as a storage addition for my gaming PC, as my other HDD WD Black series 1TB has finally gotten about full. So, in a pinch for money, I settled for the cheaper WD Blue series. Ive put mostly games on it, with some photos and misc programs mixed in. Surprisingly, it holds its own very well in the face of a performance series such as WD Black, with load times being nearly identical with little to no difference behind those of a WD Black. It has identical RPM, cache size, transfer speed etc and I have noticed no issues whatsoever with it in the 2 months Ive had it.ProsRelatively inexpensiveTypical WD qualityHas yet to catch fire andor explodeConsNone, really, unless you dont want the blue label to mess up your color coding.

I bought and had Best buy install this hard drive on my new computer, since my previous computer hard drive crashed the data on it is unrecoverable. I have not yet created any data to save to the hard drive, but I am sure that I soon will do so, as there are certain files that I have to rebuild.

It was pretty easy to install as a second harddrive after some googling for me and seems to be working well. I didnt know different harddrives are much faster and suitable for different computer things like gaming, but this is slower apparently. I think for my uses, it will be great. I probably would include a picture of the box if I worked for B H as there is some essential information on there. I also would include a better piece of paper with better installation instructions or a link on where to see some if I worked for WD. I would include a SATA cable or something. This comes with nothing and no pins to designate it as a master or slave like harddrives of old. Otherwise, everything is good.

Solid built hard drive that runs at a decent temp. Read speed is good enough to use for game installs. Write speed is pretty much typical of any consumer grade 2TB mechanical hard drive these days. Own three of them so far, none have failed. Really have no complaints about it at this point.

Replaced a two year old failed Seagate 1TB hard drive with this Western Digital SATA drive. Continues to perform well and was easy to install. I have had good service from WD hard drives in the past. I use this drive as my primary data drive on my desktop computer. Works great.

WD makes an OK hard drive. Im sure others would argue with me on this point by saying they are the long time standardbearer of hard drives. My overall issue is its energy management software. In short, all Western Digital drives spin down much too quickly and take themselves offline. Overall, its not a terrible trait. Its just annoying when you leave the drive alone for 5 minutes, it spins down and then interrupts your workflow when you call on it and it needs to spin back up. I prefer Seagates Barracuda line.

This HD was for my sons first computer build and came well reviewed. functioned well for 1.5 years but then started to malfunction. After hours on windows repairBIOS Command prompt screens by me… not a super tech savvy parent… I learned that the OS was not actually on the HD anymore and when I tried to reinstall, the warning was that the disk was likely to fail soon. Thanks to the internet I was told to heed this warning and replace the HD… should have lasted longer than 1.5 years. because we had a second computer for my son to use it has been months without his primary computer and we are just now getting around to diagnosing and fixing the problem. We worked on the issue in bits and pieces to find the root cause.Maybe we were just unlucky.

It is easy to install in an older imac, which I did myself, plus even if your device already works okay this certainly has more storage than any default imac from this era. Have been running for a month now works perfectly still

Gosh, its a hard drive. Install in machine Dells use their plastic tray, so you have to get one of those if you need to, attach SATA data cable some, like the Dell, require a rightangle connector so the case cover can be installed, install power cable If you have an old power supply that uses MOLEX connectors you need an adapter, close the case and turn on the unit.Check the BIOS to make sure the SATA drive connection is turned on, and if the machine doesnt recognize the new HDD say, if you installed this as an additional drive then to to Computer Management Right click computer desktop icon, click manage, click disk management and you can then tell the CPU to read this driveTheres a driver that installs automatically, and then the HDD works like a fully accessible HDD. No problemo. And being a Western Digital, should last a long time. All the above for a Win 7 refurbished machine.

Would have given this 5 stars…except for the following1 The drive is really their former green drives. Performance wise, its just ok. There are other faster 7200 revs brands for the same price.2 Acronis cloning software and instructions are not accurate. If youre not tech savvy, youll get frustrated and not get it to clone as the instructions stated. Simply placing the drive in your machine and using the software to clone it does not work You need to remove the drive and place it in an external enclosure, then connect and boot using the Acronis bootable disk you have to create. Otherwise, the cloning process fails after wasting a ton of time Almost could give this 3 stars just because of the software

I needed a replacement drive for my PC. I wasnt quite sure which one to get, but this one looked like it would work for my home PC. I didnt need anything fancy.I purchased it and discovered it was the same type other than capacity which came with the PC. That was a good sign. I then went to install and connect it. Everything went perfectly, and once I got the OS installed, the PC was fully functional again.I will certainly buy this hard drive again if I have the need for one

The on e item I do not see as part of the WD listing is the fact you can get a copy of Acronis True Image WD Edition Software for FREE. Most of the items included work there are a few they show as a tease to get one to upgrade. No matter, the best features do work. There is nothing in the box about this either.Acronis True Image WD Edition Software helps you to completely clone your current system drive onto your new WD hard drive. Cloning makes an exact copy of your old system drive on your new WD hard drive, including the operating system, applications, data, preferences, and email settings. Everything will be present and operate exactly as it did on your old hard drive. Acronis True Image WD Edition now supports WD Advanced Format Drives and ensures that all partitions are optimally aligned.ATIWD is based on the award winning Acronis True image Home 2013 backup, restore and disaster recovery program.Below is the WD Company link if links are not allowed, google Acronis, WD Edition software.httpsupport.wdc.comproductdownloaddetail.aspswid119

I bought one of these a month ago because a hard drive of a different brand was failing somewhat unexpectedly. This turned out to be so smooth and fast Ive since bought two more, one the exact same and the other the 2TB version.Note this drive is 7200 RPM and the 2TB is 5400 RPM. So this drive is best for more intensive uses like media and applications that need quick access. All of them are equipped to negotiate 600 MBsec SATA III connections and theyll also be fine on a SATA 2 and SATA 1 motherboard. These are also the quietest hard drives Ive ever used.Im very pleased with mine and will gladly buy more ASAP.

My system drive crashed on my desktop system recently and I had to replace it. I found this drive at Best Buy to replace it. It had the same electrical, mechanical and performance specs as the original. The installation went smoothly. The drive is quiet and performing without any problems. I was impressed with its price and ready availability.
