To start this review it is important to understand these concepts related to SSDsSLC SingleLevel Cells one bit per memory cell. These are the fastest and most reliable memory for an SSD.MLC MultiLevel Cell two bits per memory cell. These are the second fastest and reliable memory for an SSD.TLC TripleLayer Cell three bits per memory cell. These are the third fastest and reliable memory for an SSD.QLC QuadLevel Cell four bits per cell. These are the slowest and least reliable memory for an SSD.TWB Terabytes written the number of terabytes that can be written before the drive fails. The Samsung 870 QVO is a 1 TB QLC SSD with a 42 GB SLC cache. The TBW is 360. The warranty is 3 years. The advantage of QLC SSDs is they can pack a larger size memory into a small package. You can get this drive in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB first SSD at 8TB I believe. As the drive uses the SATA III connection, it is limited to a 6 GBsec transfer rate. Its packaging is as most SSDs of this type are. There is no SATA cable provided. There are no screws provided to connect it to a drive bay.My current PC set up is 480GB MLC SSD for my boot drive 1TB platter drive for my files and, 1TB platter drive for my back up drive. This Samsung 870 QVO is to replace my files drive. Samsung has data migration software as many other drive manufacturers do. I went to the Samsung website and downloaded the data migration software. It installed fine. However, you can only migrate the data from a drive clone with an operating system on it. This would not work for me. I found another free alternative called Mini Tool Partition Wizard. My files drive had just over 500GB and it took about 3 hours to clone the drive to the Samsung SSD. It is working fine so far. Conclusion With QLC memory and the price of the 1TB, there are cheaper SSDs out there with a 5 year or even 10 year warranty. If you are looking for SSD larger than 2TB, the 870 QVO is worth a look. So based on the 1TB version I rate it 3 stars for the QLC and warranty and 0 stars for the data migration tool as it did not work for me at all. So a total rating of 3 stars seems appropriate for the 1TB version.

I normally love using Samsung drives for their speed and reliability but as the title says, in this case you get what you pay for. If you only want it for cheap rarely used storage or a cheap OS hard drive upgrade and dont write huge amounts of data regularly then fine, just bear in mind that the sustained data speed when writing large amounts of data to these drives is terrible after the cache is full and then the speed drops off to the point of making your average hard drive look fast in comparison. I dont normally do reviews but was so disappointed in the performance of these I felt compelled to.

I swapped out a SamsungSeagate Momentus 2TB drive from my PS4 to this Samsung drive. The difference is night and day. Game load times have improved dramatically, especially the parts where there are cut scenes in games and a new part of the game loads.Got it for a great price, free shipping and quick delivery to Florida.

No where does this products description, specs, etc., does it state it will not work with older computers. After some time trying to figure this out this is what you need to know. Im sure already knew this but it would have been nice to know before purchasing the SSD. There are limitations that might limit the SSD to 2TBs or not work at all in computers that use BIOS instead of UEFI. If your computer uses a BIOS you will have to initialize the SSD and use MBR. MBR will limit the SSD to 2TB and that is all you will be able to get out of it. If you have a BIOS computer and you try initialize the SSD using GPT the computer will not boot. Windows 32 bit will also not work with this SSD. You need to have a Windows 64 bit. I believe there are also limitations should you still be using Windows Seven. Hopefully the return policy inside of one day works, And please state these limitations with the products description. Otherwise Im sure it is a good product as I have always used Samsung SSDs up to 2TB without any issues.

This was the 3rd Samsung SSD drive for my computer and notebook computer. They have all been tremendous. The first one I added, I was amazed how quickly my computer booted up. Would highly recommend it. Especially since the prices have dropped significantly since my first purchase.

Upgrading away from standard RPM SATA drives. Fortunately I have a network mirror drive for my PC files. This is a replacement for a failed drive in my media PC and couldve lost thousands of family photos and 100s of hours of videos. If you dont have a backup, do it now

Have long used Samsung products and have always liked the quality and reliability. These disks are very fast and operate quite cool even in an enclosed pc case. I prefer to pay more when it comes to storage as I have had issues in the past by buying cheap and buying twice and losing data. Have 3 SSDs and 2 NVME all excellent cross platform performance and compatibility. Argos brilliant as usual

Was looking to upgrade my hard drive in my ps4. Shopped around and found this was a great deal. Installed the new hard drive and what a world of difference. Load times are shortened and lots more space for new games. Very happy.

My 500GB SSD was always so full, I felt the best way to fix the problem was to buy a bigger one. Some quick scans of PB Tech website, and I found this little beauty. Great value for money, and quadrupling my system drive capacity made me a happy fellow indeed. I used the brilliant Macrium Reflect tool its free to clone my old SSD onto this one. Super easy to do and works right in Windows while everything is running. So easy. Ive had the drive running in my system for two weeks now. No problems, and not expecting any as the previous one also Samsung ran perfectly for years. Samsung Magician tells me its already written 1.1TB and is in good condition. Long may it continue.

Bought this ssd drive to speed up a Lenovo y70 touch laptop that had 16 gigs of ram, i7, 2 gig nvidia onboard card. Started to get really slow at boot up. Replaced my old hard disk with this ssd and it made a huge difference seems like it boots up 3 times faster. Made an old laptop useable again.

I installed this drive as a backup in a laptop with a secondary drive slot. Ive been a fan of Samsung drives for some time, but Im impressed with the value and performance of their products. Clocking in at One Terabyte, this drive is a good option for anyone building systems, adding storage, or replacing a drive. Size and connections, mounting points are all standard, not much to comment on there. The price is right on this one, and the transfer speeds are excellent. 3 year warranty is one of the better ones out there for a solid state drive. I would recommend this drive.

Replaced the hard drive in my 10 plus year old desktop with this SSD about 4 weeks ago. It is the most dramatic improvement I ever have made to a computer. Connected the SSD in place of the DVDCD player. Used Samsung Migration software to clone the hard drive. Then swapped the SSD for the hard drive and reconnected the DVDCD player. The computer booted up faster than it did when new. The desktop is over 10 years old and came with Windows Vista. With Windows 10 it was so slow. Now it boots faster than when it was new and everything opens in less than 9 seconds. I have a newer computer about 3 years old but it is really slow compared the this old computer. It is running flawlessly and faster than I expected. I bought the 1 terabyte SSD on a markdown and installed it Myself. It would be worth 4 times full price for the performance improvement and solid performance.John S.

Just updated my old HP laptop with a new hard drive the Samsung 870 QVO. To be honest I was a bit skeptical that this would help my 6 year old laptop. I have to admit this made a big difference. I have 2 of these laptops running Zorin OS and the responsiveness this has brought to my laptop was huge. I still have to upgrade the RAM and Wireless card. I would definitely recommend this easy upgrade to an old laptop.

Good price per gigabyte value with Samsung performance and reliability. Good real world write speed, but not as fast as benchmarks would lead you to believe. Great for large files, cache folders for media creation, huge photo collections and digital hoarders like me.

Let me first start off by saying one word, Speed. If I was to describe the Samsung 870 QVO in one word, thats the word I would use. I swapped my HD on my laptop which I use daily and immediately noticed a difference. I went from a 1015min startup time to 1520 seconds. The boot on the SSD was so fast, I was unable to go into my BIOS the first few times, I had to change the boot process for me to access BIOS. This thing is unbelievable and has changed my life for the better. I cant go back to using a regular hard drive anymore. This is it. This one is a game changer.I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinion

My goal and expectation was that this SSD would boost my older PC performance. Very satisfied with the results. I use this PC to play around with writing software in Visual Studio 2019. Have not measured performance but improvement is noticeable. The PC an Acer Aspire T is about 6 years old and had a 2T HDD. I use a very small amount of space so downgrade to 1T to saved some cost. Took a lot of learning and missteps to get the OS onto the SSD but with care I did not lose my data. Also the 3.5 space did not support the 2.5 drive so some adaption. Good learning experience. Not sure how this drive stacks up against others but it certainly met my expectations.

A great product. Samsung makes replacing a hard drive with their ssd super easy and super fast. I used my pcs 3.0 usb to connect the ssd and it took less than an hour to clone my old hard drive. Be aware that youll need to initiate the drive and down load the software to accomplish the cloning with Samsungs help. It feels like I have a brand new desktop. Id highly recommend this drive to anyone.

ReadWrite speeds arent as good as the EVO series, at least when it comes to most everyday tasks. If youre planning on running games off this thing, however, you wont notice the difference between this and the EVO but its certainly much better than using a regular HDD for the job, especially it consumes less power for that faster load times. Well worth it for PC gamers that are weaning themselves off mechanical storage now.

If you plan to install one of these drives internally to your PC, be sure to verify that your PC has a place to install the drive. You might also need cables, such as if your internal drive bay does not have an appropriate SATA slot. Also note that you will likely need to partition, format, and assign a drive letter to this drive.

my husband installed this in my laptop and all I can say is WOW I didnt think it would make a huge difference but it really has. I figured it was another of his tech upgrades that wouldnt really make much of difference to me but it has really breathed new life in my laptop. It starts up so much faster and I no longer have to wait for apps to open or even switching between apps. This is one technological upgrade that I would recommend to anyone. This is amazing and has really made a noticeable difference in an older laptop.

I bought a similar SSD from Samsung one of the 840 EVO about 6 years ago in the 500GB variety when I was putting together my new computer. The computer has since been through some upgrades including the CPU and Motherboard so its barely the same machine but that hard drive is still going strong. I was hoping this drive could give me a little bit of a speed boost after 6 years of innovation. What I actually learned is that we had pretty much tapped the speed of the SATA bus way back then and there wasnt much to be gained here. I did a simple speed test of both drives as well as my HDD and, although the new 870 QVO was faster, the numbers shown werent that substantial. The problem was that I just havent tested out my old drive maybe when I first put the computer together so I was surprised how close to the max SATA III speed I was already.Setup was as simple as usual if you know how to install a SATA hard drive. plug in the power and the SATA cable and youre up and running. Showed up in the BIOS right away and just needed to be initialized by Windows.Performance was as described above. It got very close to the advertised speeds on the box so nothing to complain about there. The 870 QVO got sequential read speeds at about 550565MBs. Random read speeds at 407MBs 1 queue, 1 thread speed was 41MBs. Sequential write speeds were between 525535MBs and random write speeds were at 379MBs 1 queue, 1 thread 118MBs. These speeds are pretty close to the advertised max speeds on the box so Im not unhappy at all. Now to contrast this with my 6 year old drive, seq reads were 538554, random was 402 and random 1 thread was 42 and then seq write speeds were 508519 and random writes were at 326 1 thread was 96.So you can see, there is a SLIGHT boost from the much older drive to the newer beast but Im not sure if its enough to warrant an upgrade if you dont really need one. About 1020MBs for the most part. Obviously this just means that these drives were performing at the maximum bus speed of the SATA III spec was back in the day which is great. So would I recommend this drive Absolutely if youre building a new computer or upgrading from a super old hard disk drive and dont already have a SATA III SSD. A good SSD is one of the best upgrades you can do if youre still using an old school platter hard drive. Do I think you should make a lateral move and upgrade from an existing SSD that works fine and gets you close to that 600MBs maximum Not unless youre just looking for more drive space. You cant go wrong with this one as its fast and if its as reliable as my 840 EVO, it should keep ticking for a long time. Samsung makes good SSDs. If you can fit something like this into your budget t hen get it.

In my case the drive is used as an external boot drive on a 2018 Mac Mini. So there are a few quirks… The drive is slow to power up and must be kept powered 247 by an external USB hub or it will not boot the machine choses the internal drive. And because it is external it doesnt give the kind of bus attached speeds that the internal drive has. But its very much good enough and is my favorite drive to boot this machine. The internal drive is not upgradable on this model. It is roughly 1.5 times as fast as another 7200 RPM spinning drive I also have attached and runs absolutely silent of course.

I got this drive to upgrade the internal storage in my xbox 1x. After removing the internal drive and doing the clone I reinstalled the drive into the xbox. I then took a friends 1x unit and we loaded the same games on both systems and checked the loading speeds. Most of the games loaded onto the internal drive had at least a 50 cut in startup loading speeds for the game and even larger speed increases on in game loading speeds. I would highly recommend this drive for anyone wanting to increase in speeds for their game consoles or gaming computers. This is an excellent SSD drive.

I bought this 2 TB SSD to replace the 2 TB HDD that came with my Dell laptop. Earlier, I had installed a 500 GB SSD to supplement my 2 TB HDD to resolve slow reboot and other performance issues that were plaguing my laptop. The 500 GB SSD became my C Drive which contains all the apps while the 2 TB HDD became the F Drive which contains all my files. As I use Google Drive to sync all my files with another desktop computer, Google Drive was interpreting the files on the F Drive of my laptop to be different from the files on the C Drive of my desktop, creating duplicates of the files and exceeding the 2 TB Google Drive storage capacity. To resolve this issue without reverting to the slow performance of the HDD, Best Buy Geek Squad recommended replacing the HDD with the blank 2 TB SSD and store only Google Drive with its files there. They did the installation and it resolved the sync issue. I now have both speed and seamless synchronization with my desktop computer. It was an expensive but necessary fix, and I am very pleased with the outcome.

Of course Im coming from a hard disk drive in my desktop computer and anything was going to be an improvement. hard disk drives as we all know story information but can potentially store it all over the place, theres also the internal mechanisms that could go bad and go wrong nothing wrong with your data but the arm on the needle gives out and then it cant read. SSD drives take care of all of that and then some. If you dont know all the information is put on like small chips. The information is bundled together and is lightning fast to process. Took me a while to find a guy to install it in my desktop but once he got it in and I got it home I thought I was in heaven. I have a gaming computer and I have redownloaded all my games to my new SSD drive. They access faster sharper with almost no loading time. This is truly a gift from above get your hands on one and get your hands on it fast.

I googled around and this drive came in at a good price for the capacity. You can buy slightly cheaper drives online but if you want it on the day then theres nothing else you can pick up for the cost of this from argos and its a good branded product. Fitting was easy but in windows 10 the drive needed initialising before it was recognised not a difficult task, takes a couple of minutes and instructions can be found online easily enough.

Really good, if youre thinking of buying one, you have to use the samsung migration tool thats free online because windows doesnt pick it up when installing, and when using the migration tool it said there was 149gb on and the ssd and there wasnt but inside the Samsung software you can clear it and its good to go but make sure you disable your 3rd party security software or it will interupt the migration, the migration is so easy. I think at this price they are worth buying.

Dont forget to download the FREE Samsung software to manage your SSD and Clone your old HDD. All works very well. Hardest part was finding a screwdriver to open my old MX15 Alien laptop up 11 years old. Runs on Sata 2 with 8GB of Ram but handles the latest incarnation of W10 just fine. Since just before my warranty was to expire on my laptop in February my laptop decided to give the blue screen of death and it started to turn off without being prompted. I took the laptop in under the warranty and they were great then. They had to replace the mother board, battery and screen I believe. The warranty was extended for 30 or 90 days, I dont recall. When I went to pick it up the agent was ready to send me away with my laptop but I insisted I see it on first. The laptop was so slow it was ridiculous and the agent agreed it shouldnt be that slow but maybe take it home a week and see if it goes faster. While at home the laptop was still giving me errors and shutting down and slow so I took it back. There was a back and forth with this lap top from Feb to the end of Sept. My warranty expired over the course of Covid and every time I was in and out of their store I would have to pay for a ride there as I dont drive. I would guess I was back and forth between 69 times at least. The second to last time there, I turned the laptop on because the agent asked me to show him what I was talking about. The laptop took its sweet time opening and I told him that this was part of the issue. I simply went to show him how copying a file to one folder on a desktop to another would at times shut down my laptop… keep in mind I was there to pick it up because they fixed it… while doing so my laptop timed out and gave an error. He spoke to his manager who agreed it would likely be a hard drive issue and because this was an ongoing issue they would replace it under the warranty. A few days later I received a call from Best Buy that my laptop was ready and that there were no issues found during diagnostics. I went in and told them the hard drive had to be replaced, I would pay for it. Because of the issues with me being able to attend the store due to not having a vehicle, they said they would ship me the laptop after it had been fixed. I received my laptop on Friday and when I turned it on the entire screen is a static. You cant read anything on the screen and Ive since taken my laptop else where to be looked at. I will not be going back to Best Buy, oh, and if you need to call the Geek Squad you cant ever get through on a telephone line or to the store. You have to be able to chat online through a computer… ironic isnt it.

Got this one on sale and it was well worth this price. Im not particularly brand loyal, but all of my SSDs are Samsung. They have a good reliable product for what you pay, especially if you catch them around sale price. Also 2 TB seems to be the sweet spot to be able to download all my favorite games, and the speed will never leave you waiting on a loading screen.

You might check prices, and compare what you want your drive to do. QVO disks are a very little bit slower for random reads, and will not last as long as EVO series disks if you are doing a lot of writes, but they can be a good value. The savings was significant when I bought this. Other times the savings have been minimal, and I would opt for an EVO, or if I need a disk that will get writtenreplaced a lot, the EVO may well be worth the difference.

Ive been using SSDs of various interfaces and form factors 2.5 SATA III, mSATA, M.2 SATA, M.2 NVMe, PCIe expansion card, etc. in DIY rigs and upgrades for myself and my family for nearly 9 years now and regardless of the underlying technology, theres one constant that has always been truegoing from a spinning hard drive to an SSD is about the most noticeable improvement you could EVER make to a PC, all other hardware being equal. This Samsung 870 QVO drive represents Samsungs second generation of higher capacity SSDs based around new, but somewhat controversial, QLC flash memory. Does the QVO make for an equally compelling upgrade as any other styletype of SSDs before it Generally, the answer is yes, I suppose…but the jury is still out on just how good a value this drive will be for the long haul. You can read all about the pros and cons of QLC versus other types of memory if you wish, but a simplified elevator pitch is this QLC represents a new storage architecture for SSDs that squeezes more bits onto the same sized chips. Practically speaking, this means larger SSDs can be made for less money…two areas where spinning hard drives ALWAYS held the advantage over faster yet more expensive SSDs. But this potential for higher capacity and lower cost comes with some fine print. First, because the bits are packed more tightly on the flash chips, write speeds may be a bit to a lot slower, especially after youve chewed through the available much faster cache memory the drive sets aside to speed up those write operations. Note, however, that the larger the drive you have like 1TB or more, the less likely you are to consume all the available cache during any one disk operation depending on how youre using your drive. Second, the drives are rated for fewer TBW terabytes written than those leveraging competing storage technology, which implies that QLC drives may give out sooner than a similarly sized SSD with a different type of memory inside. So what would all this mean to you For starters, it SUGGESTS that a QLC drive might not be an ideal choice for something like your Windowsoperating systems drive where large write operations are happening all the time for fear of wearing out the drive sooner. But of course that outcome would depend on how often and how aggressively you use your computer in the first place. For example, if you dont create a lot of 4K videos or massive ISO images every day, you might well outgrow your PC before the drive ever starts to show signs of failure. Moreover, if you dont routinely work with HUGE files i.e. larger than 1GB, you might never hit that point where youre trying to write a file to disk and exceed the available cache memory at which point your write operations would definitely slow to a snails pace. Honestly, then, many of the merits of a drive like the QVO may simply come down to economics…how badly to you need to economize on your purchase while still enjoying the speed boost youll get from using an SSD in the first place, and will you notice any performance differences arising from the purposed weakness of QLC memory anywayI put my own 870 QVO through its paces by matching it headtohead against Samsungs 850 EVO 1TB 2.5 SSD its the exact same capacity drive in the exact same form factor as the new 870 QVO, and Ive been using the 850 EVO as my primary Windows drive for about 5 years now. Now, I dont pretend to understand all the ins and outs of drive benchmarking because frankly I really dont care that muchand for a budget drive with high capacity like the QVO, I wasnt looking for the Nth degree of high performance anyway. But for those of you who care, I ran CrystalDiskMark and Samsung Magicians own benchmark tests on the two drives. The results attached below echo the common sentiments findings floating around the netyes, the QVO was observed to be a little slower than Samsungs older nonQLC drive in some areas of the benchmark testsbut not really by that much, and in terms of any meaningful differences, it certainly didnt feel like Windows was suddenly chugging along on the 870 QVO.Where I think the value proposition for something like the QVO really shines is if you want to have a large SSD data drive for things like games, documents, photos, etc.a drive that gets a lot of read action, but you dont necessarily writechange the contents all that often, and not necessarily in huge chunks, either. In those cases, going with the 870 will save you on space, energy and noise over a similarly sized spinning hard drive but you will DEFINITELY get the readwrite speed bump that SSDs are known for. Unfortunately, for those unfamiliar with SSD migration or working with drives like these, the simplistic picturebook style instruction manual included with the 870 may lead one to believe their package was incomplete. If you intend to migrate your operating system from a spinning hard drive to the 870 QVO using Samsungs Data Migration tool which is a separate download from Samsung Magician BTW, Samsung DOES make the process dead simple with that tool, but the manual suggests that a USBtoSATA adapter cable will be necessary. Its also implied that one should have been in the box for you. In fact, all you get here is the bare drive…not even mounting screws. Of course, you can mount the drive internally in your PC using a regular SATA power connector and cable and still use the Samsung Data Migration tool, but for those of you looking to upgrade a laptop that doesnt have a spare 2.5 bay, you probably will need to obtain some sort of adapter unless you plan to simply reinstall Windows on the bare QVO drive upon powerup.Otherwise, the Samsung Magician companion app is a pretty userfriendly piece of software for drive maintenance and optimization. Magician can check your drives firmware, overprovision the drive to improve longterm performance, enable RAPID mode to improve readwrite performance as I understand it, RAPID actually performs caching to speed up drive access similar to the way the QVO drive does already…it really didnt seen to make any noticeable difference outside of benchmarking, securely erase your drive, and manage encryptiondecryption operations. Magician runs resident in the background, but other than providing a oneclick interface for maintenance or ensuring your firmware is uptodate, there are plenty of people who run Samsung drives without it.In the end, its hard to make an unqualified recommendation for the 870 QVO. Yes, its a slice of the latest and greatest trend in SSD storage, but that doesnt necessarily mean its better than the alternatives and in some cases, meaningfully so or not, it is definitely NOT as strong as the competition. But as a lower cost, higher capacity SSD, the 870 QVO still seems to have a place in todays SSD landscape, especially as capacities of drives with QLC memory start to grow well beyond 12 TB. So long as the economics match with your intended use case, the QVO is a fair to decent performer but if you are concernedparanoid about longterm durability or are seeking topoftheline access speeds, there are definitely betterperforming drives on the market for the same or similar price.

Great SSD for game storage. I also own the previous model QVO 860 this performs similiar if you have it as well. Comes in a typical package with warranty info and the drive. Screws for installation will come from your casemobo packages so dont expect any installation screws. On first boot the drive was detected in windows and needed to be formatted in disk management under windows 10. Once formatted it was ready to start holding data. I found the advertised speeds to be reasonable expectations. I would not recommend this for boot drive with the availability of NVME drives nowadays I would use this strictly as a game or storage drive. The price point is a little high but as always you are paying for the Samsung name compared to similiar products. That said I own several Samsung SSDs and they are all still going strong and I have a 0 failure rate so with that premium price tag also comes a reassurance that you are getting a quality product. If you go into this purchase knowing that you are getting yourself a solid gamestorage drive in a 2.5 format then you will not be disappointed in this purchase or the speeds at which your data loads.

wow, what a bargain. 1TB for 125 shipped is incredible. This really brought life back to an old 2016 Asus laptop. It is now usable again and fast. So much cheaper then getting a new laptop this old one now is speedy and so much more pleasant to use. I really recommend upgrading any old computer with this SSD. It might not be the fastest or the best but its perfect for old computers. If I could give 6 stars I would.

Wow, I was really impressed when I installed the hardware, installed the accompanying software, and ran a benchmark. This blows my old SSD out of the water Make sure your download the Samsung Magician and select all the available performance optimizations to harness the full power of this hard drive. Very happy and makes my video editing on Adobe Premier and my streams on Wirecast that much better. I feel I have great reliability, stability, and performance with the Samsung name at the helm of my data storage and transfer. Super happy customer

One of the things that I do almost daily is replace older mechanical drives with SSDs. Samsung is the gold standard in SSD devices and is the only brand I install in my personal devices. FWIW, I install these Samsung drives in as many Linux systems as I do Windows computers and they work great with both OSs.

I originally had a 960GB Crucial BX500 and found the 870 QVO to be so much better, It is far superior. It is noticeably faster and is a better unit overall. Downside is that it is a QLC drive as you can save a little bit more and buy the 870 Evo or the 870 Pro. As I only need it for the space as a secondary drive it is perfect for my needs.

The Samsung 2TB 870 QVO 2.5 SSD is priced right. It was easily installed and migrating the Win 10 OS and data from my main smaller SSD to it was a piece of cake. Just download the migration software from Samsung and follow the easy directions.

I got this to replace two 3 gig HDDs set up in a mirror raid that hold me documents, photos and videos.. Its expensive But its so fast. Navigating folders of photos is so much faster, almost instantaneous loading of dozens of thumbnails on screen at a time and full images. This drive also has a great TBW rating so, especially with my files also being backed up to the cloud I felt perfectly safe replacing two HDDs in mirror raid with this single SSD. Amazing that they can fit 4 TB in such a small package.

I have just purchased one of these drives from EBUYER to upgrade my HP Envy laptop from HDD to SSD.. What an improvement, boots up in around 20 seconds rather than up to a couple of minutes, shuts down in a similar time and everything is so much quicker and smoother.I did not use the migration software, I use my Macrium Reflect to clone the HDD to the new SSD, took about 90 mins…Swap over took about 15 mins including removing 15 screws that held the bottom cover on… and it booted back up first time. Really impressed so far.The Magician software is very good…Would recommend this drive to bring new life into you computer.

Got it to upgrade my PS4 Pro storage and so far its worked great. Launching games literally takes less than half the time as before. As an anecdote i stopped playing witcher 3 due to the extended load times but with this the new load times at most is 30 seconds compared to 5 minutes before with the stock hard drive.

I purchased this SSD for data backup, and I had an NVMe SSD on my laptop. But, I would like to have a 2nd SSD to store my media data. This SSD is a perfect choice for this requirement. This SSD didnt come with any accessories. When I opened the box, I only see the SSD and user guide. The installation is straightforward, removes the back cover of the laptop, and connected the SATA connector. This SSD is using QLC NAND, and the QLC can store 4 bits precell. You can store more data in the NAND cells, but that will also increase the write bottleneck. You can buffer with SLC or DRAM to improve performance. In my test, read speed is very close to 560MBs spec. throughput, but write speed is only 507MBs lower than spec..The major limitation is from the SATAIII interface, but it meets my requirement.Samsung offers 3 years warranty for this product.Overall, SATAIII may max out sequential performance, but Samsung found a way to improve Random 4K performance. If your laptop only has SATA III interface, this SSD will still improve your performance.

It being only a month since the drive arrived, this review isnt definitive. But so far this SSD is no slouch when it comes to read and write times. Obviously it isnt an M.2 or anything, but the operating system starts up super quick especially compared to my Kingston SSD I got in 2016. This was also cheaper than the 860 QVO at the time, so if that happens to be the case when youre looking to buy it, might as well go for it.

In theory, these will not have as much write endurance as the EVO or PRO series. However, you pay drastically less and for many common workloads youll probably never hit those limits so end up upgrading before the many years of service these will still offer. So its basically a toss up in price per GB if you need the higher write endurance, or the outstanding value of the QVOs. Either way, Samsung is always my first choice in SSDs of any time e.g. 980 Pro for Gen 4 NVMe, 970 Evo Plus for Gen 3 NVMe, EVO SATA for RAID SATA NAS and QVO SATA for workstation secondary storage etc. Just Google any reviews, overall Samsung is king of the SSD market.

Needed a replacement general storage drive for my PC after the demise of a 10 yr old HDD. Saw this and liked the price. Installed easily as a replacement annoyingly they did not provide a packet of mounting screws but my stash of leftovers came to the rescue the SSDs need quite small screws. I also downloaded the free Samsung Magician software which immediately installed a firmware update, super easy. Nice bit of software actually that can give you the health status and speeds of all drives. Highly recommended.

Samsung makes great stuff, pretty much across the board. This drive is no different.Nicely packaged, easy to open, and packaging and drive both had a really nice feel and look.Installation was simple and as advertised, the built in software automatically revealed to my Dell G5 gaming laptop bios. Install, return backplate and screws, power up, partition drive and good to go.From an operating standpoint, it works as expected. It very quickly moves those ones and zeroes and stores them just as would be expected. In all, a solid choice if you want to say goodbye to the HDD and hello to the much faster and more reliable SSDD. Internal hard drive was acting up on an otherwise perfectly good i7 computer, so I decided to upgrade the computer to an internal SSD before things went south.Since the 2T was only about 75 more than the 1T, I decided to go with it you can never have too much storage space. Not the cheapest, but the quality name is well worth the money.Best Buy Geek Squad did the install and transferred the info from my old hard drive to make the new 2T the startup drive and the old one the backup. I replaced my hard drive from a 5 year old notebook and made it usable again The drive is very fast and significantly reduced loading timesInstallation was a breeze. I just had to take off the bottom cover off my laptop, remove 1 screw and swap the drive. If youll be using it as your primary drive, make sure to install an OS on there first otherwise you wont be able to boot from it. If you need additional storage and your notebook still has an optical drive, that can be removed to install a second SSD in that bay. I wasnt able to get readwrite speeds that are advertised on the box but it was still a significant upgrade and revived my old machine. SSDs are known to be more durable then the conventional hard disk drive so Im hoping durability is not an issue. Only the test of time will tell So far, Im very happy with the Samsung Ssd and would recommend it.

its a SSD. works like it should. My reason for a 4 star though. it did not come with any screws or cords. luckily for my laptop i had a cord that fit the hard drive and my laptop. Most computers need a plug, my laptop was different. For my laptop it was not just a plug and play. i had to format the drive and get my laptop to read it. i have done this a few times, but just for those who might not, you can google how to install a new SSD.i am glad i got this though cause my laptop only had a 512 SSD in it. and did not even have a secondary hard drive. so having this is nice and being a SSD even nicer. especially because my laptop is for gaming. i have installed more games now on my laptop. had a external 7200rpm drive. nice to play games and have them load up a lot faster.if you are looking for a SSD hard drive, this is a great hard drive. just remember you will have to have screws that will fit if you dont have, as well as the sata cable for it.

Bought this to replace a 7200rpm hard disk to speed up startup times and it does the job fine having migrated the original drive over, startup is now far quicker than it used to be.The only problem I ran into is that the Samsung migration and monitoring software really doesnt like RAID controllers while it looks as though the drive would probably work OK plugged in through one I could see the drive in windows, neither samsungs migration tool nor their magician setupmonitoring software would work when connected via the motherboards raid controller even though not part of a RAID volume. Fortunately, my motherboard also has a couple of extra SATA ports intended for optical drives, and the samsung software worked fine with the SSD connected via one of those. If youre looking for an inexpensive SSD to replace a hard disk, this is worth considering. As a budget version, there are obviously going to be some trade offs compared to more expensive alternatives, but so far its a big improvement over the original hard disk.

I already had two Samsung SSDs for over a year and they never failed me, 860 Evo and 970 Evo Plus. The only reason that I would not recommend this is the price. TLDR This is a solid every day SSD, but there are other options.I benchmarked this drive on Crystal Disk Mark 7 which I would consider near best case benchmark. The fastest test Seq1M Q8T1 returned 550MBs reads and 486.77MBs writes. The worst case test RND4K Q1T1 pull 38.5MBs reads and 98.09MBs writes, which sounds bad, but Ive tested NVME drives that only pull mid 40s read and low 100s writes. These are still good numbersWhere its not so great is with large files. If you deal with lots of large files, I would stay away from the QVO and QLC based drives in general. The 870QVO 1TB has a limited about of SLC write cache, which means the speeds look great up to a point, then crash and burn. To test this, I copied a 56GB hard drive image from another SSD I have to this one. It averaged around 450MBs until the SLC cache was full, then it plummeted to 7080MBs for the last 12 or so GB of the file. The full copy averaged 245MBs.To wrap up, if you need a drive for your ballooning games folders or need an decent everyday SSD from a great brand, this will work for you. If you move around large files all the time, media editing, or local media consumption you might want to keep looking

I bought this ssd for a quick upgrade from my old 250gb 850evo, It seems to be snappier and well the storage room is ample. Bought this SSD as an LTO staging drive. High capacity is nice, but the problem is the read and write speeds are so wildly inconsistent. The specs say up to 500 MB sec for both read and write. For write, I can average 125 MB 160MB sec, and this is when the drive is brand new, just formatted, and nothing is on it. There are mechanical drives faster than this. The read speed is better, averaging around 450500 MB sec, so good to write on my LTO8. Except when the drive is half full or more. Then read speed plummeted for me down to around 150MB. LTO writes at 300 MB sec. This thing is good to maybe revitalize an old laptop. I cant really think of too many other good use cases for it. I am returning it.

The Samsung QVO 870 is Samsungs latest budget SSD. It comes with a three year warranty and 360TBW Three years is kinda platry but 360TBW isnt so bad as long as youre not downloading GBs worth of files every day. I have an older Samsung SSD thats nearly 6yrs old and has only 20TB written currently. This is my work computer and uses a good bit of cache for Photoshop daily. So an average user can expect years of work and play before failure. The SSD comes with 42GB of cache. Once the cache fills up there will be a performance decrease. This is another scenario that most people will never see unless installing a large game.Performance is pretty standard. I had 460MBs writes and 480MBs reads. Not quite as high as the advertised speeds, but nothing to be disappointed by. I didnt bother testing the speeds after the 42GB of cache filled.I also didnt install the Samsung Magician. I dont like installing any programs that dont play essential parts in my set up. The software is needed to upgrade firmware, but unless Im having problems I avoid it. An older version of Magician once wiped my HD on a firmware upgrade so I avoid it if I can.Theres nothing remarkable or terribly faulty about this drive compared to other drives. It does what its supposed to at a price that doesnt break the bank.

ProsFastCheapIncludes cloning toolsRAPID Mode increases performance substantiallyMagician software includes a lot of featuresConsDoesnt include any adapter for cloningDoesnt include screws if adding a new driveNot user friendly for first time installersIt is becoming harder every day to justify buying a traditional hard drive. With drives such as the 870 EVO topping out at 8GB the argument of low capacity is no longer a barrier for most. SSDs also take up less space, are lighter, are faster, use less power, arent bothered by bumps, dont make noise, and generate far less heat.Initial Impressions and InstallationIf you have already used Samsung SSDs before things wont look much different. Its just a deceivingly light metal 2.5 drive and a pamphlet in the box. No cables, adapters, screws, or software included in the box. The instructions do point you to Samsungs website for their Data Migration Wizard and Samsung Magician. If this is your first time installing a hard drive, be sure to do some research first on how to install. This is even more important if this is to be your OS drive. The reason is, even though its a retail kit, there is no adapter included for cloning or any screws for that matter. It does include Samsungs own cloning software that you must download from their website. None of this is a big deal for an experienced system builder but might a little confusing for first timers. If you have a spare bay to install it, the process is overall pretty straightforward. Just install the drive and the Data Migration Assistant will, in most cases, recognize which drive is the old. You select the new drive and click one button.Usage and PerformanceFor Samsung fans, the drive performs just as you would expect. In testing and usage the speed was very consistent. Without RAPID Mode disabled, sequential reads consistently stayed above 500MBs with 4KB speeds being a more modest 33 to 35MBs. Writes clocked in at 480MBs or greater with 4KB write speeds hovering around 75MBs. CrystalDiskMark turned in a 550MBs read and 520MBs write coming much closer to the stated 560 Mbs read and 530 MBs write.Samsung Magician offers a lot of extra features compared to other SSD makers, including integrated performance testing, diagnostics, encryption, and secure erase but the most useful utility for daily use is RAPID Mode. When turned on, Magician uses a portion of your RAM as a cache which in testing consistently returned speed results over 2000MBs. Of course you can do the same thing with any third party caching system to boost performance and Windows already does this to some extend but what is nice is how Samsung includes it right within their software and doesnt require any more than turning it on. Keep it on makes a noticeable difference during times, such as starting the computer, or repetitive tasks and overall makes the drive feel a lot faster than competitors that dont offer such a feature out of the box.Samsung claims the TBW rating has been doubled compared to the 860 QVO series. Looking back at old articles, the 1TB 860 QVO was rated at 360TBW. According to Samsungs website, the 870 QVO maintains the exact same 360TBW how they can claim it has been doubled is unclear. Similarly, both the old and the new drive have the same 3year warranty. That said, overall SSD reliability seems to be better than that of a traditional hard drive and Samsung has a reputation of making reliable SSDs. There is no reason to believe the 870 QVO would be any different.Final thoughtsIts really hard to squeeze any more performance out of the SATA III interface, which is why the 870 QVO performance is nearly indistinguishable from the previous generation. What is nice to see is Samsung increasing storage capacity over the previous generation offering up to double the maximum storage of the 860 series. It seems thedays of traditional hard drives is rapidly coming to an end. If you are need of a SATA hard drive or a high capacity affordable SSD, the 870 QVO could server you well and likely for a very long time.

When I first open the box and saw the SSD I was amazed for how lite it is and casing is very neat and feel like the case is made with aluminum. My original plan was to use this as my extra drive for my laptop but I didnt realize till later that this is not a compatible size for it. Most of the latest laptop uses the slimmer version of ssd like literally smaller than your used to be 2.5 ssd. So huh, I ended up using this as my backup hard drive, which is not really a bad idea. Installation process is very easy. To make this as a backup HD I have to buy a very good enclosure for this. You have to get the best one to benefit the best performance of this SSD.And to my surprise, this SSD is super fast Im completely now a fan I transferred a 2gb worth of file and it only took like 5secs or even maybe less This is definitely going to be my backup drive nowBut We have a PS4 as well that I have been wanting to upgrade so I decided to give it a shot. Of course as I expected, it loaded the games way faster than it used to The wait times significantly dropped and everything is just running smoothly The gaming experience feels like it rose significantly, it feels like we upgraded our console to a different level just because of the SSDAs curiosity grew larger, we now decided to try it as the bootable hard drive for our PC. And from there point, we decided that we should get another two for our PS4 and for my personal use of my photography storage.Im pretty sure theres more SSD out there in the market, but the price range for this is more affordable and Samsung stands for their product.

I purchased this to complement a PS4 Pro I was buying at the same time. They arrived together and I installed this immediately, swapping out the included 1tb HDD. The whole process was a breeze using Sonys instructions, and I had the entire set up complete in under an hour from unboxing to the console being ready to play.I cant speak to performance enhancements, but a month later everything has been flawless.

I was needed to replace another SSD from other brand that was giving errors and I was almost out of space. So I went to my local store to get a Samsung SSD. Easy to install, installed Samsung Magician to monitor and set up additional parameters. It has an excellent performance and I hope it gives me many years of service.

I didnt have a desktop to install as an internal drive but i have a SATA 3 to USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure to use this SSD drive as an external. And the performance was unexpectedly great. I tested the speeds and got Write 416.6 mbs and Read 431.2 mbs. Very fast as an external. These numbers will be higher if I used it as an internal. AMAZING. the difference in speed is unbelievable. I cloned my sata drive onto this ssd and now instead of taking several minutes to boot up it takes less the 20 seconds. Opening and running multiple programs with ease and in a fraction of the time of my old drive. I honestly wish I had done this sooner.

I needed fast and large capacity storage drive for my gaming PC.I found that Samsung 870 QVO SSD is perfect for my need.Setupinstallation was quick and easy just plug it in, and do a quick format Thats it. Easy.I have Samsungs 970 NVMe SSD as my primary storage to run Windows OS, and setup this QVO SSD as a game drive. As many benchmark tests show, game loading time between NVMe and SATA SSDs is only negligible difference. I actually tested loading time for MS Flight Simulator 2020. and it took me about 2 minutes and 2 seconds with Samsung 870 QVO SSD. I noticed my main drive NVMe takes bit less 6 seconds. However, considering QVO drive costs significantly less, I have no complain on its performance. I am actually very happy about the result.I highly recommend this product to anyone need faster storage at a reasonable price point.

This drive pushes the limits of the SATA interface for solid state drives available today. Samsung labels this drive as having a read speed of up to 560MBs, and a write speed of up to 530MBs . Based on my tests I was able to pull out write of 526.95MBs and read speed of 559.04MBs write on par with advertised or close enoughOUTSTANDING job, Samsung I guess theres a reason why so many enthusiasts will only use your drives

Bought to replace a standard hard disk in an old Dell Inspiron 1750 core 2 duo as it was cheaper than upgrading the memory from 4 to 8Gb and should give an improvement in performance and WOW After cloning the hard disk the SSD dropped boot up time from over a minute to under 10 seconds and everything feels snappy. Its not as fast as my Ryzen 7 desktop but it has suddenly made the laptop a pleasure to use again. Not bad for a machine from a decade ago.

I use Samsung SSDs almost exclusively in all of my PCs, including gaming machines. My 2TB 860 EVO is almost full, so I was excited to receive this 870 QVO to expand my gaming storage. For general use and game storage, this drive is perfectly fine and will offer a dramatic improvement over traditional mechanical hard drives. However, power users will want to be aware of some of the drives limitations.PROS Speeds are very fast, pretty much as fast as you can get from a SATA interface. As you can see from the attached screenshot, sequential readwrite speeds are in excess of 500 MBs. Random readwrite speeds are slower, but that is simply the nature of these drives. For general daytoday computing and storage of games or media files, these speeds are great and infinitely better than a standard mechanical drive. The 870 QVO is offered in sizes up to 8 TB, which is unheard of in a 2.5 SSD.CONS Due to the nature of QLC flash, the endurance of this drive is lower than other models that cost just a bit more. Endurance refers to how much data can be written to a drive before it eventually fails. The endurance of this drive the 1 TB model is rated at 360 TB which is a ton of data for the average user, but might not last quite long enough for power users like video editors. The 4 TB model increases this dramatically to an endurance of 1440 TB, but these numbers are still lower than Samsungs EVO lineup of drives which use a different type of flash.OVERALLHonestly, there are practically no downsides to this drive for 99 of users. For those who frequently work with very large files and transfer a ton of data every day, then the lower endurance of these QVO drives might mean the drive will fail sooner. But for everyone else, that is a nonissue and this drive will last a very long time and provide plenty of speed. Recommended

We purchased the 1 TB Samsung 870 QVO SATA III drive to use in our xBox 1x gaming system. To say there are avid gamers in our house would be an understatement, so drive speed is a huge deal here This drive didnt disappoint. We didnt use a stopwatch, but we did have a friend bring over his xBox 1x and we compared loading speed and performance. It wasnt hard to figure out who the clear winner was. The xBox with the new SSD drive beat the pants off our friends xBox, both in game loading and game performance. Hes now a believer in this drive and is going to get one for his gaming system. If you want to increase your game loading and performance, this drive is a sure winner. We wouldnt, and didnt, hesitate to recommend this drive to anyone who wants a performance boost. My laptop takes a dual hard drives so I was able to upgrade my storage side to this SSD from the standard and the difference is amazing I can access my files and save than before. The box comes with just the hard drive itself and no cords which isnt an issue if you are replacing an SSD in a laptop, but if you are upgrading an hdd in a desktop to this one you will need to get a cage for it. I dont really know what the heck is going on with my attempts to load Win 10 on a 9 y.o. computer. I thought my old orig 2tb Samsung HDD was going or otherwise corrupted due to various misc BSODs. I managed to get it loaded up for a short time and was amazed by the speed increase provided I assume by the new SSD. But then even more BSODs ensued. I have a feeling I may not have even needed the new and pricey SSD, but I will find a use for it. I thought this would be difficult at first but it was not, and boy was it rewarding. You will need to have the adapters to plug in the SSD to clone your existing disk. I downloaded the Samsung drive cloning software, plugged in the SSD and copied the main hard drive. This took about 4 hours start to finish with no errors. It then renders the old drive obsolete. I removed the M2 drive and booted up the laptop, voila It started up with no issues, I was now booting up off the Samsung SSD, awesomeI then put the M2 stick back in its bay to format as a storage drive. It took my computer 2 restarts to recognize it, but it finally did not Samsungs fault. I formatted it and set up as a D drive. So a problem there for Samsung i think. But like i say it runs brilliantly and has made a huge difference to boot up, shutdown and opening and using programs, the read and write speeds are absolutely amazing. Used for a PS5 external drive in a third party enclosure. Decided to go this route so the drive can be used for other things ifwhen I need to upgrade. Otherwise, its a Samsung drive worry free, basically the industry standard at this point, and one of the few that make their own controllers. This helps when youre dealing with QLC drives, since as you increase the number lf bits per cell, the lifetime of the drives goes down versus a TLC or MLC or SLC if these are still around drive. Samsung has a reputation for being able to keep the longevity up even while increasing bit counts.

These drives can not handle significant sustained writes without their write speed dropping through the floor. Currently running a mixed write workload of moving thousands of small 1kb and large 20gb files onto a pair of these drives in RAID 1 and write speed after 16 hrs has settled into a consistent 16MBs from a peak of 300MBs.These drives are sufficient for my primarily light read workload and archival of data, but any significant continuous write heavy workload will suffer.I will be keeping the drives, just impressed that my spinning rust can outperform these sustained write speeds. Very much a tortoise vs hare story with these drives.

Installation was a breeze. Even though it is 7mm and my drive slot is 9.5mm the rubber guides in my computer made it fit snug enough. The only reason for 4 starts is that it doesnt way anywhere on the box if a spacer is included to make up the 2.5mm. Wow this thing is fast. I updated an aging computer and what a difference this drive makes. It use to take forever just to boot up into Windows and now it is lightning fast. I expected it to be faster but I had no idea it would be this fast. Opening apps and playing games were also significantly faster. I dont know why it took me so long to upgrade to a SSD but I am so glad that I did. The install was quick and easy and I was using my new pc within a couple of hours. I say new because it really does feel like a new computer now, heck it feels better than it did when it was new. I tried a lot of different apps too because I kept thinking that there was no way that one simple upgrade could have that much impact, but it definitely does. And being a 1TB drive it had plenty of space to install all my most used apps and games. Since SSD has no moving parts, they make no noise. They only run 5 Volts so there is no heat build up and less power drawn. This small 2.5 drive replaced an old 3.5 1TB Hitachi. This is the first time that Ive owned a 1TB SSD. I was a little skeptical about the performance and reliability so I decided to try different things to see how adaptive and reliable the drive is. Samsung states that the drive speed can go up to 560530 MBps of sequential readwrite through and up to 98,00088,000 random readwrite IOPS which is quiet good for the amount of data it can store. So first I use it as a startup C drive and installing Windows 10 from scratch. I used my old Acer Desktop as well as a new HP Laptop. Both Units were able to see the drive with no issues, even if the acer HDD controller of the acer was really old. I installed windows 10, and the installation was fast. Once it finished the installation I installed several programs like office, games, etc. No problem. I booted the drive several times to see if there were any problems but there were none. Then I put the original c drive on both units Acer Laptop and HP Desktop both of them has a HP 256 SSD with a SATA 3 interface 6GBs c drive to boot with Windows 10, and the Acer has also a D drive Toshiba 2 TB HHD. I copied data from the 256 SSD boot drive to the Samsung 1TD SSD, and the data transfer speed reached the 490MBs, which is really good, then I tried the copy from the Toshiba 2TB HDD drive to the SSD Samsung and the speed was 200MBs, something that I was expecting because the Toshiba is not SSD.The other thing that I did was to see if I can use it as an external drive. I have a USB3 to SATA adapter, and it was immediately recognized in both machines. I was able to backup data and the data transfer went up to 150MBs, considering it is using USB port is really good.Something that I found really cool was the Samsung Magician software that can be downloaded from the Samsung website. It is a really useful and powerful tool, I can see not only the samsung SSD drive, but my other 2 drives, the Toshiba HDD and the HP SSD, and if both have the SMART technology integrated, the SW will tell you any PFA of the drives. However, for the Samsung SSD it has a lot of tools like, Low Level Format, Temperature, Serial Number, Firmware update, diagnostic scan, performance Optimization.Another test I did was to fill the disk until 85 of capacity and I didnt see any performance decrease on data transfer. So, no matter what I did, this drive has accomplished very well, for Windows 10 it behaves wonderfully, as a boot drive, it make seen the Windows 10 very fast and responsive but that is because the drive is really fast.Very pleased with the performance, this Samsung 870 QVO 1 Tb is a good deal. I highly recommended.

This is a great solid state drive I purchased this to replace a Seagate Desktop SSHD drive that has been in service for over 6 years. I am extremely impressed with the responsiveness and speed of this drive. I have not found anything negative to say about this Samsung SSD. I highly recommend this drive to anyone looking to update upgrade their hard drive.

Got this to replace my 3.5 hard drive to cut down on noise and heat… mirrored the 3.5 drive on to it via USB 3. Turned it off unplugged the old 3.5 and turned on the pc… fast load of windows 10 very quick easy to do and no problems. So good I got another one. Dont use with HDD drives as your pc will not get past asking you for a boot up disc… well pleased fast working on cubase 11 DAW with 48 tracks…. cpu heat normal… and I still have the old 3.5 should I need a back up….. change to this if you have a slow old pc….

I have a mixture of the QVO and EVO SSDs across five machines, I dont notice the difference in every day use to be honest. I understand that the sustained writes on QVO are slower, its just not noticeable. Steam will download at 85MBs to it no problem, and then during install I see the drive at around 250300MBs. No complaints.

Will start my review by admitting I have five Samsung SDD and NVMe m.2 drives in my machines to date. There are reasons for that as you may have deduced. They are rocksolid, dependable, and fast with excellent warranties. My first Samsung SSD has been quietly humming along for many years managing and storing my data, which leads me to trust the new installation of the 870 QVO will be here for many years delivering data storage.First response upon opening the packaging was my kid, wow looks cool. Samsung SSDs have always had a polished look to their cases, a sign of the quality that lies within. They do look cool by the way.Samsungs website claims they are Achieving the maximum SATA interface limit of 560530 MBs sequential speeds with the 870 QVO. Benchmarks run on CrystalDiskMark shows that the 870 QVO is pushing the data to the limit that SATA III allows. Absolutely great numbers from a SATA III SSD, especially running on an older gaming laptop I used for benchmarking. In fact, the benchmarks were the best I have seen on an SSD.OK, we all know Samsung drives are leaders in SSDNVMe m.2 technology. So, what stands out with the 870 QVO drive Sequential Read Speed Up to 560 MBsec Sequential Write Speed Up to 530 MBsec Intelligent TurboWrite 2,880 TBW double the previous model 860 QVO TBW Time between failure Three Year Warranty Refinements to the ECC algorithm that enables stable performance Samsung Magician Best software for managing SSD drives on the market Data Migration Software move your stuff over with ease and confidenceYou make get the idea I like Samsung drives, well I do, they are fast superb performers and the 870 QVO is the latest in the lineup. Hands down the best performing SSD in my systems.Plus, they look cool

Ive been using this drive for a couple of weeks. Ive used ext4 Linux, HFS unencrypted macOS, and APFS encrypted macOS filesystems on it. Ive loaded it about 34 full with various things, including virtual machines, media, games, backups, and some applications. It is not a PCI Gen4based NVME SSD, so you cannot expect performance at that level. Depending on the test and filesystem, I am seeing the kind of performance you would expect from a drive maxing out the SATA III interface. It also does not seem to get hot. And, of course, it is silent. For reads, Im regularly seeing at least 510MBs. For writes, I am regularly seeing at least 420MBs. And this is with file system encryption on for a couple of the partitionsvolumes.Unless you need something greater than 8TB in a hard drive, you should really look at something like this. The price is still quite a bit higher than HDDs at these sizes, but at least at the 4TB level, I definitely find it worth the price differential.

Its said that when trying to increase the speed of your pc, the first and easiest thing to replace is the hard drive. And I agree. The 870 QVO SATA SSD is Samsungs budget level SSD with storage capacities up to 8 terabytes. It is a SATA interface drive which is limited to 600 MBsecond transfer rates, unlike NVMe drives which can reach speeds of 3500 MBsecond. While these numbers look good on paper, there are lots of variables and reallife scenarios to take into consideration. A quick google search will show many review sites with all the big test results and comparisons. In my opinion, from a consumer standpoint, the only thing that matters is how much faster the drive makes your computing experience. As with most SSDs, the drive arrived with a multilanguage manual that says to go to Samsungs website for their drive magician and cloning software and some general installation pictures. You have to browse their site to find the software. Since I already had the drive and didnt need to shop for one, I would have preferred a link that took me directly to the software page and download links. If you are replacing an existing drive you will need either a 2nd drive bay, data transfer cable such as httpswww.bestbuy.comsiteapricorndatatransfercablegray3459621.pskuId3459621 or external drive dock.Samsungs cloning software worked well. Like most companies, it requires their brand drive to be present. Cloning my laptop hybrid drive to the new SSD took just over 20 minutes. Swapping the new SSD into my older Dell laptop was simple and only took about 10 minutes and the difference is amazing. If you are not planning on cloning your existing drive and want to install a fresh version of your OS, know that this drive comes completely blank and will need to be partitioned and formatted prior to using. Trying this, a clean install of Windows 10 home from a USB 3.0 thumb drive took less than 10 minutes in my I7 laptop with 16 GB of ram.My laptop now boots to Windows 10 home in about a minute compared to several minutes or more with the old hybrid drive. Programs launch almost immediately. I also have a similarly specd desktop PC that has an NVMe PCIe drive and in my use, the speeds and load times are too close to notice any significant difference. The Samsung Magician software shows drive information, details and benchmarks. It is also used to diagnose any issues your new SSD may have as well as secure erase and drive encryption if thats something you need.My only negatives for this SSD are the warranty which is only three years vs the usual five years that most other manufactures offer and not having a direct link to the Samsung Magician and cloning software.I highly recommend the new Samsung QVO SATA SSD to anyone who is looking to speed up their computer and is limited by a SATA interface.

This is a great improvement, over a normal hard drive. Due to the size youll probably not need more storage. The Samsung software makes cloning of your old drive easy. Then use your old drive as a backup. Speed starting up goes from 45 mains to 40 seconds and in use there is a definite improvement. Also if you get rid of your old HD noise reduces and so does power use.

I bought this to replace my sister HD drive which took nearly 5 mins to boot up to the desktop. After attaching this I followed the instructions on how to download and install the disk cloning software and let it do its work. After 30 mins the drive was copied and I disconnected the old one. Rebooted and it loaded the desktop within 20 seconds. If you havent upgraded to one of these then I suggest that you do so. They make a HUGE difference to how your computer performs.

The drive is good. It is speedy on the Dell Megatrend MB. The Samsung 970 Pro NVMe they sold me was slow on it because it lacked BIO support. It also would freeze on restart. Hence why I changed to the Samsung 870 SATA. You would think Dell would know their MB BIOs dont support NVMe SSDs. Nope. It isnt in the manuals and support had no knowledge of this problem. So, one Star for Dell.

Im excited to put this in my new build. I already have one in my current system and love the reliability of it.There is a couple things that I wasnt excited about with the purchase shipping process.Online it doesnt provide a model for what you are looking for. If you put the model in the search it pulls up the item your looking for, but it doesnt provide the model number even when you click on the specs. I ordered it on a whim that it was correct and if not I would have returned it to the local store. The other thing that I was not happy about was how the two SSDs were packed. The SSDs were put in a large box with only two pillow packs and they completely rattled in the shipping box. The packaging was a little damaged, but hopefully they will be ok.

Loving running all SSDs in my gaming rig, it really makes a difference. This one is surprisingly getting close to full capacity now that Ive loaded it up, and not using oldschool HDs anymore. Of course, I cant wait for 4TB SSDs to become more affordable. If youre looking to switch, this is a good affordable entry into the Big SSD. There are faster ones you can buy, but youre likely not going to see a big enough difference for the price you pay.

This drive is great Easy installation and a major upgrade for anyone still using an older style hard drive. My OS boots in a fraction of the time and video games load much faster than before. In the past I have used SSDs which were much smaller and I had to sacrifice storage space for the performance boost but this one is huge at a whole terabyte you get the best of both worlds. One thing I would like to note is that the drive does not come with a SATA cable so if you plan on using along side your old drive and dont have a spare cable lying around you may want to purchase another one separately. Another thing I would like to add is that if you are installing this in a desk top PC and it does not have a SSD mounting chassis you may also want to buy a SSD mounting bracket separately to fit inside the HD mounting chassis for a secure mount.

Great little drive for games and renderingThis is a SATA drive, not an NVMe drive, so it will not go as fast as the new PCIe 4 drives can get. None the less, it is pleanty fast enough for running games, and rendering video to.More importantly the 2 TB size allows for a lot of storage at a much lower cost than the NVMe drives. This is also a great replacement drive for laptops with spinning disk hard drives in them. It is both faster and tends to run cooler than those types of drives.

To date, I havent opened the package from Best Buy. I suppose I should … to make sure it isnt damaged, etc. The fact is I have two desk tops on the go … and each has Samsung SSD main drives. In addition, I have two or three other drives. I got them back in the day when I had issues with my older computer failing because of a virus or something. So when I decided to do an entirely new install of Windows with programs, drivers and peripherals, I cloned all of that to another SAMSUNG SSD. Now, if when that computer goes down because of drive issues … I simply copy those pictures, music, etc. off to a Passport external …and plug in a clone … and Im back in business in about ten minutes total time. I got this new drive because the largest SSD I had for the newest computer was 500 GB … and the drive to be cloned is 1 TB.Before I ever bought my first SSD, about 3 years ago, I researched and determined SAMSUNG was the best and most reliable for the money. So far, I havent been disappointed. I expect this newest drive to perform as well … and if it doesnt … its under warranty. I have recommended these drives to a few friends. In fact, I installed one into the desk top of a friend whose old hard drive was acting crazy and wouldnt read . To my mind, theyre the best.

Performance of multiple applications is noticeably faster and more trouble free. Improvements are the greatest is software that tracks archived file locations. Adobe Lightroom Classic is a good example. While active work was always conducted on SSD storage on the main board many files in the softwares catalog were kept on external drives with high speed USB interface. That software would continually verify catalog integrity during operation. Moving all files in an active catalog to mainboard connect SSD storage improved response and reliability. I start catalogs annually and four terabytes 3.6 in Windows is sufficient space. Past catalogs and respective data can be archived to external hard disks after. I would have preferred NVME to SATA but not enough to spend the extra money. This storage solution was worth the investment.

I had no idea how much of an upgrade a good SSD can be compared to a HDD. Though the process to switch was less than optimal, Id say this Samsung SSD has drastically improved boot times and read write speeds on my machine. Prior to install I was constantly having slowdown issues on my laptop and task manager showing my disk was always maxed out. Since installing this new SSD, I havent had any read write issues. The Samsung data migration tools are my only problems with this SSD. I never could get the software to correctly clone my old HDD to the new SSD, even though it was Samsung software and a Samsung SSD. But, once I switched over to a free disk cloning tool from the internet, I had no problems creating a cloned drive. After that, it really is just plug and play to update to this new drive. You crack open your desktop or laptop and plug the SSD in. Youll immediately notice improvements in boot time from the first time you boot with the new drive.Samsung also includes some optimization software that works with this drive to help peak out performance. Its fairly easy to install and though Im not sure how much it really helps, its a nice little addition for the power user looking to really get the most out of their new SSD.Overall, this is a reasonably priced high quality SSD. Youll definitely be happy with the improvement if youre upgrading from an older HDD. IF starting from scratch, I think this is a great option to get you started on a new machine.

The Samsung 870 QVO is a great alternative to a mechanical hard drive. Although the SSD would be capable of been utilized as a boot drive I would recommend using this drive as a storage drive for media and games. The main reason for this is because the QVO utilizes QLC which doesnt wear and endure as well as SLC NAND technology. The read speeds are 554 MBs, but the write speeds are the strength of the QVO, after benchmarking via the Samsung Magician software it recorded a write speed of 482 MBs. This is almost 3 times the write speed of other SSDs I have owned.

Using in a USB 3.1 enclosure on an Xbox Series X for external storage. Games load only a few seconds slower than internal storage. Keeps all that precious space open for Series X specific games that must be played from the internal storage or an expansion card if you have one. Transferring games back and forth is also quite reasonable time wise if you have more Series X games than internal space available. I have used about 2 TB of space and have 138 games plus tons of DLC installed on this drive. Very satisfied with this Samsung drive as storage for my Xbox Series X. All of this should apply the same for someone looking to add storage to an Xbox Series S too.

My desktop was a little older so I only had sata ports on my motherboard. So this drive was as fast as the sata ports could transfer data so it was an obvious choice. The Samsung 870 QVO provides a good solid state drive with fast readwrite speeds, its definitely a major upgrade from a standard laptop HDD.I tried the 870 two different ways to test out the speeds. First, I installed it into my PS4 Pro, copied my data and restored it onto the new SSD. The results were pretty impressive. I recorded the load times of 2 different games, first running them on the stock HDD, then running them on the new SSD. The first game I tried was God of War, I was surprised that the difference in this game wasnt that much. The 870 loaded the game only 20 seconds faster than the original HDD. The second game is where I saw some major improvements. I then tried out Red Dead Redemption 2 and that game loaded a whole 1min and 21secs faster on the SSD compared to the original HDD.I wanted to fully test this new SSD out to see what other kinds of speeds I would be able to achieve, so I decided to install it into my laptop. Now My laptop has an M.2 running Windows 10 and a second standard HDD which holds all my games. So I wanted to copy just the secondary HDD to my new 870. This was not as easy as it was suppose to be. According to the Samsung website, this SSD has updated migration software, that lets you clone your old HDD to the new SSD. Unfortunately, this upgraded migration software, would not allow me to copy my secondary drive, It only lets you clone a Hard Drive with the operating system installed on it. In order to clone the drives, I had to use a stand alone Hard drive cloner which I had laying around. This process took me roughly about 3 hours to clone 150gb, but at least I was finally able to get it working. After I finally got the new SSD up and working, I wanted to try out Samsungs Magician software. This software is suppose to optimize your drives performance, check the drives health status, update the firmware of the SSD, also it is suppose to let you erase the drive back to the factory settings. Clearly, this software has not received an update to fully support the new 870 QVO. When I tried the secure erase feature, it wouldnt let me do it, everything was greyed out. The software did detect that I had a 870 QVO, it displayed my drives serial number as well as the information. I was able to use the performance optimizer, which is as simple as selecting your drive and pushing optimize. It seemed to make it run a little faster when launching games, although I didnt time it. The last thing I did run was the benchmark test on the new SSD. I did run the test on my old HDD as well as my M.2 and the number seemed to be pretty accurate. For my old HDD I was getting a readwrite speeds of 116112. For the M.2 I was getting a readwrite speeds of 1599978. But for the Samsung SSD I got a readwrite speeds of 56535787…Obviously, these numbers are inaccurate, and I think its a case of the software not supporting the new SSD fully.Overall, I am satisfied with the 870 QVO. My games now load faster, which enhances my experience. I am a little disappointed that the Migration software didnt work as expected for me, but maybe that will be updated in the near future. I would recommend this SSD to anyone looking to update their old HDD, or if youre looking to buy a new SSD.

Upgraded current C drive from 1 TB to 2 TB Samsung Magician makes install and transfer of data a breeze. Only drawback is drive must be connected directly to pc ran into problem with drive temporarily installed through Insignia dual hub port. Using other software to copy info from C drive.

All of the EVO fan boys will talk about the difference in the type of memory that is use in the QVO drives vs. the EVO drives. Without getting too crazy with the technical details, I will not deny that what they are saying is true the EVO drives use a higher quality type of memory, but I dont care. For the same price I would take the 2TB 870 QVO over the 2TB 860 EVO any day of the week because the 870 is newer technology. It has the new controller and the readwrite speeds are so comparable. For what I use these drives for the warranty length is not an issue. I will never go anywhere near the write limit for the QVO warranty and will have it in service far longer than 5 years. If this drive dies before me or before the SATA technology it relies on becomes obsolete, I will be much more than surprised. For the average user the 870 QVO is totally awesome.

Wanted to replace a failing hard drive in my laptop with a larger solid state drive. The Samsung SSDs were recommended to me.After installing the SSD, my laptop starts up faster and seems to run programs quicker. I am glad to make the switch. Only time will tell how reliable the Samsung SSD is.

This SSD does exactly what i wanted, higher speed than the spinning drive, lower heat and lower power in my laptop. I got it on special and really cant complain about anything except maybe that the Samsung migration software only migrates a primary drive. I have replaced the secondary drive so i had to find a different clone tool. Other than that it was perfect, i would still give it a 910 so i rounded to the 5 stars. When i do my next PC build i will be getting 4 of these.

After reading reviews I bought this to replace the stock 500gb HDD in my PlayStation 4, primarily to double the capacity although it also loads games faster. It was easy to install into the drive caddy and once installed can be forgotten about. Works a treat.
